Default Red Deer River by Pontoon Boat?

I just got a pontoon boat this year and am wondering if I could take it down the Red Deer. Where are launch locations?

Yes! Which section re you interested in? There is a canoe map available from the Alberta Recreational Canoe Assn. But info can be found online. Only issue would be long day on the water (between put in and take outs). Dixon to Sylvan is a nice float but long. Tollman to Drum you couldn't do in a day but could break it up.

I'm thinking you mean Dixon Dam down to Innisfail?
There is a launch on hwy 54 and range road 20 that cuts that float in about half. Then there is Innisfail to the Penhold bridge at the day use campsite. Then from there you can float into bower ponds if you want.

Yes Innisfail not Sylvan! My mistake (entirely the wrong direction)!

Default Drifting RDR

Thanks for the replies! Would the section below Dixon dam be a good section for fly fishing for trout?

I catch a dozen or so brown trout out of the RDR every year. For the last 4 years, I have caught one big (+20") brown. There are not many of them, but they are there. They are beautiful hard-fighting fish.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm moving from Calgary to Edmonton at the end of the month and am trying to plan out places to fly fish... Gonna miss the Bow!

Default Dickson dam pontoon float

I live on the RDR below Dickson Dam. Just be careful as the floods have re shaped the channels and there are many danger points due to debris. I just don't want to see you end up in trouble. Have Fun

The RDR below dixon is also pretty good for pike, walleye and goldeye! Just chuck some streamers around and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I'm jealous! Would love to try that someday on a pontoon. Be careful of sweepers, I remember lots of woody debris.

I know a few guys who launch from Innisfail Bridge and drift to Red Deer, usually do it easily in a day. catch alot of Goldeye and a few trout.
