As mentioned earlier i lost a couple buddies in a similar event. You just try to keep the hope and faith alive, even though with each passing hour you know its going to be a bad outcome. The hours do feel like days.

I dont know if the guys on coal lk had an anchor tied to the boat, but thats how they ended up finding my friends. The boat got pushed a couple hundred yds away from where they capsized. After a day or two of diving one diver finally followed by hand the little trench the anchor made as it got dragged along. Then he came to a pile of their camping gear on the bottom of the lake. That same day they found both my friends...

I found my closure knowing that they died for something they lived for

Search for missing Coal Lake boaters temporarily called off

Volunteers use sonar to search for two missing boaters on May, 21 2012, at Coal Lake, about 70 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.Photograph by: Greg Southam , edmontonjournal.comEDMONTON - A recovery search for two missing boaters on Coal Lake was temporarily suspended Tuesday as RCMP determine what to do next.

Camrose residents Everett Westerneng, 19, and Dallas Simons, 26, failed to return home after setting out on a fishing trip Friday night.

RCMP received a report of the missing pair early Saturday morning and launched a search effort that came to include family and 200 volunteers.

Searchers found the duo’s capsized four-metre boat, tackle box and other personal items on Saturday.

Family and friends of the missing men continued their search efforts Tuesday at the lake, about 70 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.

Neither man is believed to have been wearing a life-jacket.

I heard about this incident through a friend who has just purchased a property that backs onto Coal Lake. My heart goes out to the families. This is normal for any family that experiences a loss like this. As a retired commercial diver, I know first hand what these folks are in for. With water temps what they are, the boys had less than 30 min. in the water before they were unconscious, if they were still afloat. They will sink first, then float once, till the bodies "burp" then they will drop to the bottom. It sucks, but these facts don't vary from fresh water to salt water. If they weren't found within a few hours of them being missing, they aren't here anymore. It's unfortunate, but this is the reality of this type of situation. I've helped out more families than I really want to recall in this situation dealing with recoveries. I hope they get some type of closure to this sad situation.

Default missing boys...again

The worst part is that there still is the factor about 'the unknown' and that we don't have any closure yet. As unwanted as the most probable answer will be from this recovery mission, atleast it would be an answer and we would know that way.

Thank you for all of the support that this forum members have posted, and the work that some of you have done around the lake.

The families of Dallas and Everett have never stopped looking, they have been looking for the boys day and night. Surviving on very little sleep. The families are very grateful for the help from friends, community members & organizations, and some of the neighbors that have lake front properties. Their are many people who have been assissting in the search, or helping those who are searching with things like food, drinks, water for the trailers and other necessities.

I just heard on the radio that they have been found in the SW area of the lake.

Condolences to the families.

Yes,

The final update for all those sitting at home, waiting: EJ and his friend Dallas were found this morning after missing for 10 days. I know it's not the closure we were hoping for, but it is closure nonetheless.

Thank you for all of the support that some of you have given, it is surely appreciated.

Sad to hear that....I looked for several hours when I was out there I waded alot of water looking around while I was fly fishing....

I am curious if they were found near or far from where the boat was found....but in the end that has little bearing on the tragedy.

So sorry to hear about your friends, condolances to you all that knew these boys. I hope the good memories replace this bad one real soon. If the big guy calls your number, it's good to be doing something you love when the call comes. On a side note, good on all the forum guys who went out and lent a hand.

Default Sad outcome.

From one group of fisherman to another .

Fisherman's Prayer

Fisherman's Prayer - God, grant that I may love to fish until my dying day.

And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray.

When in the Lord's safe landing net,

I'm peacefully asleep,

that in His mercy I be judged

as big enough to keep.

RIP you two young men may there be lakes full of fish to catch .
