Took the daughter out today, it was decent but nothing to write home about. Stopped by the Dickson trout pond before heading back home and i saw some guy carrying a 7-8lb brood rainbow back to his car. I just shook my head, i am sure it tasted awesome................

Just some Walleye, took the kid out and she destroyed them all day. Someone told me you can keep Walleye at Dickson Dam is that true? I heard that the water is safe to drink and that the all the trees have bark that taste like candied salmon is this correct? Someone told me all this stuff i just want to make sure its correct by asking everyone on AO.

nope cant keep walleye there, you can keep a few pike if there over 63cm, and i wouldnt risk drinkin the water either. you can keep walleye down stream of trochu though but thats about it for the red deer river.

Downstream from the dam, the res doesn't have much water in it.

Ive caught a brown trout that looked silver there before. Also about 20 + browns from there and downstream on TNT pheasant tail nymphs.

Cool

This year is a little off normal. Ime browns were down in number , walters just not showing in size or numbers from years past . No doubt the flood has had some lasting effects .
Tight lines good luck .

I love the RDR.

The browns are there. They live in the most trouty of water. I have never caught an average 16" brown. Lots under 12", 4 over 20". The RDR browns are beautiful fish.

In August, my friend and I caught over 40 whitefish near the dam in a 4 hours. It was killer fun.

The last 2 times out, fishing the same area, I have not caught a single whitefish. A couple of browns (one 8" and one 22"), 3 walleye (one big 27" girl), 2 hammer-handle pike, and 3 goldeye. But no whitefish.

It was disappointing. They are probably there; I would blame my fishing before I blamed the fall of river, but something is not the same as it has been for the last 15 years.
