Default Legal Challenge - Open Carry for Wilderness Protection

A legal initiative has commenced to pursue gaining the right to Open Carry a Handgun for Wilderness Protection. This initiative is not for CCW or any form of urban carry rights and only applies to Open Carry on rural and Crown land.

Firearms Act lawyer, Richard A. Fritz and Constitutional Law lawyer, Gerry Chipeur, partner of the national firm Miller Thomson have both been consulted in regards to the initial steps. Gerry Chipeur is very enthusiastic about moving forward and a group of us are meeting on Nov 14 to continue to expand and build upon our efforts.

A Facebook group has been created and currently acts as a home base for this initiative. After 14 days it has exceeded 2500 members and is growing at a rapid rate. There you can learn more, ask questions, share your opinion and if you deem the initiative worthy, partner with and support this initiative. Almost $10,000 has been raised in 4 days for the legal retainer. Outdoors enthusiasts from 8 provinces have contributed financially so far. A website www.wildernessprotection.com is currently in production.

To find the group on Facebook please search for:

Authorization to Open Carry for 'Protection of Life' - Canada

Wolverine Guns & Tackle of Red Deer, Alberta has provided two high quality rifle packages, one hunting and the other long range shooting, as gifts to two of the first 250 donors.

As they say "nothing ventured, nothing gained" and as far as the critics go, I am reminded of Aristotle who said “To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.” If there is a way to try what we haven't tried, I'm willing to investigate and try.....are you?

Hope to see you there.

Good going. I don't facebook, so hopefully you get the website up and running soon.

Thanks for getting this started. This sounds like an excellent first step. Too bad the Harper gov't hasn't righted this without the need for legal action.

Most of the important voices and positions within the Harper government are supportive. We are reaching out to them.

Contributor Gift Packages!!!

Wolverine Guns & Tackle, Red Deer, AB wants you to know they support your outdoor passions, your rights and your safety. As a way to back that up, they have offered to provide a gift to one of the $100 or greater contributors as soon as we reach 125 of them. Then if that wasn't already amazing enough, they will do it again once we reach 250 contributors how make a donation of $100 or greater. Technically you have two chances to win if you're in the first 125 contributors. You can only receive one gift though. The first recipient gets to choose between the two gift packages.

In four days we are at about 70 contributions. The first draw is at 125.

Gift Package #1- Hunter
Tikka T3 Stainless Steel 338wm
Burris 3-9x40 Fullfield Scope
Nikon Rifle Hunter 1000 Rangefinder
Zeiss Terra ED 10x42 Binoculars
Rifle Case & Tikka Sling

Gift Package #2 - Long Range Shooter

26" Heavy Fluted Barrel
HS Precision Stock
Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 ERS
First Focal Plane Illuminated BRT-Mil Reticle
20moa Base & Warne Rings.
Uncle Mikes soft tactical case.

More than one contribution that adds up to $100 by the same individual counts ie 50+50 etc. Each time you donate an additional $100 your name will be put in the gift selection process again.

Happy contributing.

I had three people bring this up to me this morning at work, a delivery driver and two seperate crew trucks! Seems to be gaining momentum. I will see what I can do on my end to help.

Have to ask, wildernessprotection.com is actually registered to a Protopixel Pty Ltd in the country of Australia and is currently up for sale for $499.00?

Edit: Unless it's .ca? Registered yesterday with godaddy.

Hope you have success with this, baby steps are what's needed for firearms owners in this country.

My apologies it is www.wildernessprotection.ca not .com ...I tried to get .com but as you discovered it is taken. I just put .com out of habit. I am currently dealing with the developer.

This has a VERY unlikely chance of getting through, but good luck. Especially with the tightening of security with the recent incidents. BTW, politicians will say anything, but when it comes down to their vote, the bigger wallet always wins.

I think the big question has to be.. Why?

Is there a sudden increase in deaths by animals? That would've changed if they were carrying? How are you going to deal with poachers? You've basically just given them an out.

I'm trying to get my head wrapped around how "wilderness" would be defined. In the end I would suspect it will be up to each municipality/county to decide if they will allow it and where.

I have to ask, on what basis is this "legal initiative" being launched? Not interested in guesses. Does anyone actually know? Is there a section of the charter that is being invoked?

I would think that it would be to allow recreation users to carry a pistol whereas the atc is for employment purposes. As far as county or municipality it wouldn't matter much if it is like a atc. My atc is good for provinces of ab and bc.
