Default October fishing on the Bow

I live in NW Calgary and was wondering where the best (& closest) place to go fly fishing would be. I looked up the regs and it appears that I either have to go north to Cochrane or south to around 22x to get some fishing in. Any suggestions on my best options? I prefer to walk and wade and fly fish.

From the water works in Calgary to the Carsland weir is open all year. That stretch is way better than around cochrane in terms of quantity and size of the fish. I would try the southland dog park, fish creek, or the 22X at Deerfoot. All have produced fish for me in the past. Includuing in the winter on some really cold days.

If I were you I would fish from Glenmore Tr south right down to the Carseland weir. More fish per mile than the upper sections of the Bow. The fish are starting to move into the slower deeper water now. Have fun Russ C

Default Thanks for the help

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the help. Great suggestions. Is the southland dog park at the east end of Southland drive where it hits the river? That looks like a promising place to start - probably 25 min from my place without any traffic.

You gott er just head to the end of southland east and drive into the parking lot you cant miss it and it is about a 2 min walk to the river and the nice thing is that there is a bridge there to get to the other side but if you have waiters it is not very deep there so you can cross no problem.
