Default Cow elk in. 406

Did some searchig didnt find any info looks like i might have a. Chance to pull a cow elk tag in 406 was just wonderin some general info on how elk is doin there will be maken trips up there this summer to scout an door knock so not looken for any honey holes jst some info thanks in advance

Well you wont be knockin on doors as its all kananskis . As for the elk , be prepared to wear out some boot leather.. there s elk to be had for sure but its big country with 90% of it being foot or horse access only ...

Thanks an not afraid to burn leather thats forsure me n wife are headnin up this summer to do some hiken an scouting been goin threww topo last night an have a few areas wanting to cheak

They are real tough to find early season on foot unless you are willing to get way back which won't be a day trip. Once the snow flies you can find yourself in with them in less time long as you don't mind cold and lots of snow.

ok sounds good and no fear of the cold work in it all winter and plus when a guys out hunting it seems warmer then when working lol thanks for all the info guys looking at putting down first elk

Im pulling a few tags in 406 this year , no elk tho but ill keep my eyes open for ya .. good luck out there , and be aware lots of grizz in the back country..

I have a feeling you don't know much about the area.

Keep in mind, if you shoot a cow you will be packing her out on your back unless you have horses to do the work for you. Easy to do if you are familiar with it, can be overwhelming if you never have before.

Something to keep in mind.

Default Cow elk

What I've learned about areas like that is, wait for heavy snow and cold then head out. The elk will be much lower down. Buy some snowshoes and crampons as you might need either one. Crampons will turn you into a human tractor,not yen shoot one close to a road

No i am not familar with this zone but have hunted whole life in the 300s an 400 just wanting to venture to a new area thanks for ideas of crampons i was planing on packin it out have all my frame pack an gear and will be packin the snow shoes thanks for the help guys appreciate it
