Default Distance Between Coyote Baits

Over the last 3 years I had 1 bait station when I worked away but I recently took a job close to home and I am thinking about running a few coyote bait stations (5-6) next winter. I was wondering how far apart they need to be so they remain productive throughout the season without interfering with each other? I have access to a large area to trap as I know a lot of farmers in the area so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It depends if your going in a line or a circle I have found. But I wouldn't go any closer then a mile I like two if possible.

I think that 3 miles is a pretty good rule of thumb. That's about what I do but I'm a nomad and I start a new baitsite once I catch the locals and the site stops producing. Catch and move......catch and move......it seems to work better for me in the farmland that I'm trapping.

I did have one site this season that produced for two months until it finally ran dry though.

Default Coyote Baits

Thanks for all the replies! I thought they would need to be farther apart but I guess not! It should save me some gas money then.

I was joking earlier. A coyotes home range is about 6 square miles on average.

Not an expert at snaring or math but using the 6 square mile formula one could set in the middle or edges of both and be 2 1/2 miles from bait sites to take advantages of home territories.I find other factors such as drainages, snowfall accumulation , weather, brush, farming/feedlot operations, etc. can affect bait distances as well. There are some days that it is tough to figure out what a coyote will do.Good to pay heed to Marty as his numbers speak well for him.

Default Baits

I had thought 3 miles would be to close, I was thinking more like 10-15 miles between. After the input on here plus a couple PM's I have come up with a different plan for next winter.
