Default Trappers Course in Lethbridge

I've inquired with the ATA before and was told that if there was enough interested individuals that a trappers course could potentially take place in Lethbridge. Anyone else from the Lethbridge region interested in the course?

If there is enough people I will see if I can get the ball rolling.

Check with the Lethbridge College Environmental Science division, there probably is enough people there that would be interested to hold a course.

Default Lcc

I know they offered it during my stint at the college years ago, but I was unable to attend. So far there is a little bit of interest, and I will definitely have to be doing some recruiting to make it a go.

Thanks for kind words Brian and the same goes to you with respect to the ACA

Good to see more interest in this. I will follow up next week with a fellow outdoorsman (Big thanks to Turbo Mulcher) and see when there will be instructor availability and go from there. I will provide an update next week and see what dates work best for the group. Cost is relative to the number of people who sign up so the fuller the group the more cost effective it is.

We will likely need a few more people to join up so please get the word out to any who may be interested.

cheers,
Jeff

Default Trapper's Course

I Should hopefully have an update on available instructor times and venues today or tomorrow. When I have all the pieces of the puzzle, I will check back to see what dates will work best for everyone and we can finalize everything from their. I will complete a cost estimate once we have a venue established, and if anyone has a suitable place to complete the course at (that is fair priced) please let me know. Otherwise I will look into other venues in Lethbridge.

Default Update

Sorry all, I've been drowning in work the last couple weeks and haven't had time to do much coordinating. I will make a couple calls and should have more for you guys soon.

It's not looking like I will have time to do the course this spring due to the amount of work piling up, but I will still try to make this a go for those that want to do it this spring.

On that note there will be a need of carcasses to skin (coyote, beaver, etc.) so keep 'em if you got 'em, and if not, feel free to go bag some.

Jeff

Default Fall course

Timing wise the course isn't going to work until the fall. If anyone interested in a spring course would like to take the ball and keep it rolling let me know.

Otherwise we'll hope to see you in the fall!

Default Costs

Costs are dependent on a variety of things such as accomodations/per diem for the instructor, Trapper's manual, cost of the test, cost of the venue. This all would be divided evenly among participants. Meaning the more the people the less the costs, keeping in mind there is a limit to how many people can be effectively taught at once (10-15 likely). And on top of that, specimens are needed for the class so people can get some hands on experience with the skinning. The when is the hard part as it is difficult to find a schedule that works for everyone. For the instructor in mind it will likely come to life again in the middle to late fall.

Default Lethbridge trapping course

I'm interested if you can get one going this fall....had a trap-line in the Cariboo of BC until about 12 years ago, wouldn't mind a refresher course and see if there is anything new in the trapping world. Good luck in putting something together.
