Question Is there anywhere to fish in southern Alberta right now, that isn't ice fishing?

Can't say I've ever gone out in the winter except to ice fish. Have a weekend coming up that works well for a buddy and myself to head out, but we don't have ice fishing gear and he has no interest in even trying without a heated shelter. I'd love to buy all that stuff, but since I don't have a vehicle, unlikely I'd ever use it more than once a year kind of thing.
Seems unlikely there's any holes that have running water, that are open and accessible, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
Another question actually - is it possible to rent ice fishing gear? including a shelter? For a day?
Thanks!!

Oh damn, we're in Calgary. That's pretty reasonable. I'll do some checking on Kijiji, didn't think of that. Thanks!

Bow river south down by fish creek park is open all year. Caught lots there in the summer and winter. Red and white Lenny T and x-raps rainbow seem to work pretty good for me.

Me thinks he rolled in from Manitoba with the posse of dippers Nutley hired for her Edmonton office after they got punted out by the new PC govt.

After all Manitoba may have to wait till May long for lakes to open.
