Default Football!

Not a perch!

Caught this short fat rainbow this past summer, forgot about him until i was looking at perch picture's.

Caught a few over last year, I think its just deformation of the fish when growing to the adult stage. All of mine I caught were from a local stocked fish pond, so I think this "Football" trout is just simply a deformation with trout in hatchery's

Certainly not a biologist but almost looks like they ate something they couldn't pass.

Did you keep it? Would be a pretty easy way to tell if I was right lol.

No i didn't keep it, i thought the same as you, looked like he ate a chipmunk or something, likely a hatchery caused issue though?

It was from a stocked lake.

I caught 2 in Carson Lake last winter that looked exactly the same as that one.

Saw one similar out of Sibbald. Must be a genetic thing from hatchery broods.

The trout is missing vertebrae that is all. Not common for raised trout but does happen.

The trout that used to be in crawling valley many years ago were footballs I caught a 15lb rainbow there and it was almost as deep as it was long lol
