I believe there are only 2 flying versions of this plane in the world. At least that's what I heard.

If Redford was still around that would be a cheap way for her to fly.

The winner also has to sign a waiver. Think in the good old days, passengers rode in the bomb bay. No pressurised cabin and electric heated flying suits, prone to failure, to keep you warm. would definitely be a trip to remember, if you made it.

I will pass
I actually do have 40 grand in liquid cash as of this week and with no comittments on it but I would not spend it on a Lancaster Bomber ride.If it were an all inclusive deal that included live munitions and I was allowed to choose the bombing target(that being Revelstoke BC) then I would do it.
That craphole seriously needs to be bombed LOL
I would happily spend a few grand for a wicked rip in a P-51 Mustang though.

Man, I'd love to even just step inside a Lancaster. My two favourite planes from that war were the Lanc and the Spitfire.
But uh... I just couldn't bring myself to toss 40k at it.

Man, that would be a great ride for the first hour. Then loud and hot. I would pay the 40k for a P-51 dogfight in a second though!

I'm sure that wiping out the dam upstream would be more effective, and much more fitting.
You share the same love for that town as my father.

My Great Uncle never made it back from WWII. He was killed in a Lancaster when two Lancasters collided over an airfield.....

So is this an example of stupidity. What would it be worth today if it was left intact.

P-51 Mustang
For those who commented on a P-51 Mustnag ride, they are available both as an orientation ride and and a check ride for you Pilot's rating. Stallion 51 in the U.S. provides the training.
There are also several other (less expensive) orientaiotn and dog fight flights avaialble in the southern US. They typically utilize Pilatus trainers. Our son and a friend did a coupe of dog fights in Flarida and had the time-of-their- life doing it. But I must WARN YOU -it is addicting!!!!
As for how much a operating Lancastor mught be worth - several million$$$$$

I saw a short doc. On the Merlin engine a while back. I think a rebuilt later version is worth between $250-500 K

That would be the trip of a lifetime for a WW II aircraft foamer.
Your $40k would be eaten up pretty fast on fuel costs. I'm not sure what an imperial gallon of 100/150 octane AV gas goes for nowadays.
Four Rolls Royce Merlins are thirsty beasts.
Depending on power settings, by my basic calculations, a Lanc would be burning somewhere between 156 and 352 imperial gallons per hour - depending mainly on power settings but many other factors also need to be considered to calculate actual fuel consumption.

Those engines were Rolls Royce Merlins. The same used on Mosquitos, Spitfires, and later the P-51 Mustangs.
I guess this is the Canadian Bomber being sent to Europe to scare Putin.

My uncle pulled a Mosquito from the wartime airport to his farm. He had further to go so he bought the little fighter instead of a Lancaster. The windshield had some glass that was 4" or 5" thick. I will ask my cousin what happened to their plane.

WWII Lancasor Pilots
I think the Government should fill the seats with WWII vets that were in any of the Lancastor Squadrons? Understandably they would have to be physically capable BUT they should get FIRST PRIORITY. And hopefully there are anough still around to even have a lottery? ONLY after should the seats be available to the general civilain public!!!
At 8 seats that's only $320,000! Heck a couple of Senators and a Premier blow that without THINKING!!!
