Default Bulk lawn fertilizer

Dam basic lawn fertilizer prices have skyrocketed.

Anyone find some cheaper products out there?

Made the mistake of looking at US Home Depot by accident.

Found prices were much better and levels of NPP was higher also.

Not sure how big your lot is, or how often you buy/treat your lawn, but for around $269 green drop does 4 fertilizer applications, does any spot treatments for weeds if the weed n feed does not work, as often as you require with no questions asked and does an annual aeration as a bonus in that package price.

I'm pretty sure I would have spent at least that much in herbicide in a year - so for me, it makes sense. I haven't seen a dandelion in years. I haven't bought fertilizer or weed killer since either.

I run a landscaping company and the ONLY way to go is Green Oasis [ now Nutri lawn ]
I recommend 100% this is best they have a weed n feed program you cannot match, there services will cost you the same as a bag of granular but no weed control
Get a quote first and then decide

they have done sixty acre plots for me too or a residential lawn too

All I use are 50lb bags from the local farm supply store. No comparing the price. It will likely burn my lawn faster than the fertilizer in prettier bags, so I only use it when I am certain of rain.

Best to buy bulk or farm supply bags. Always spend your $$ on Nitrogen as lawns do not need much phosphorous or potassium. Good fertilizer 30-10-5 NPK range for grass.

Do you worry about that fertilizer washing into your fishpond and making the algae grow faster?

I wouldn’t use granular beside the water. I’m not beside the water where it can be washed in.

Our water quality is excellent so I wouldn’t want to harm it.

Interestingly enough… our lake ranks as oligotrophic.

To be clear, I didn't intend to shame anyone for fertilizing, I just wonder if anyone changes their lawn care habits when runoff into lakes is a consideration.

They should. It can be very impactful so they need to be careful. Closer to water a liquid fertilizer may be more appropriate or just leave a buffer.

Eagle Lake has tons of natural fertilizer entering it…ie feed lot. Hence it is lime green by June.

Most of the alge in Alberta lakes caused by feedlots on local creeks as well as septic tanks from lake cabins draining into lakes. Lawn fertilizer only minor cause of problem.
