Default what is your preferred fly rod and reel for Alberta waters

was thinking about upgrading my 4wt for a different all around setup that could be used for the bow river, red deer river,n.s.r and many other streams and rivers, problem is there are so many choices i am all wound up on what to get, any info will be very helpfull.

Thx

Too many options to really say. For the Bow and anywhere your checking weight I would say a good stiff 6 or even 7 if you like chucking double weighted streamers all day. For an all round Alberta rod (if such a thing exists) you already have it with a 4 wt. I use mind as my preferred rod every time out that it's appropriate. Rick.

There are too many different kinds of fish and different water to choose 1 rod to do it all in my opinion. When I fish the Bow I might have two rods rigged up, an 8wt for tossing heavy nymphs and streamers and a 4wt for dries. I guess if I could only choose one rod for Alberta, a 6wt would be a good compromise.

agreed. both on the 6wt as an all around and the need or want to pack two rods. i do get a ribbing from the boys all the time for toting two weapons, but it don't stop me.

I really like my 5/6 weight Fenwick. Has done me good so far, as far as reels go, I like my Okuma. The reel was like 70 bucks and works like a champ. I guess you should just go and try a few things out and see what you like.
