Vehicle rod rack?

I was just watching the video shawn posted about the steelhead family and was wondering how good those hood mounted rod racks work?

Would they be suitable for a couple hours of highway driving or are they just made to be used during low speed travel?

I am interested in maybe getting one next season for my fly rods and want to know if different brands are better then others and what kind of price range I am looking at.

don't go with the magnetic or vacuum type. they just don't stick and can come off even at low speed. your better off to make your own, not very hard to do.

even with bolt-on holders, any speed over 60km and you rod tips bang together.

there great for low speed but not hi-way.

They could be handy for short moves while stream fishing, but on the highway, the same bugs that end up on your windshield would have to pass through them first. I wouldn't want to be cleaning that off the rods and reels.

I had this problem going fishing in the truck with the dogs... I had to put my rods in front seat. Not a good idea though

Is there a stand to hang in the back of the truck inside? Im thinking along the back window, that you can mount and no one can damage them, while driving..

I found a video on one that they called the sumo and it seemed to hold up really well in all driving conditions. The rods never really moved at all and they had it strapped to a rally car doing jumps and drifts. The one report said that they took it through the car wash and it didn't budge there either.

I have an 08 gmc sierra with the 5'8" box and a quad cab so I figured this would probably be the best route to go. I don't want something that is permanent on my vehicle so a bolt on one isn't really a good option. I also don't have the room for one of the interior roof mounted ones because the cab isn't long enough. Rod saver has one that can be used in the truck box but my box is far to short for that so I just don't see any other way to transport my rods except the way I am now which is a pain in the ass some days or the exterior rod racks that are mounted to the hood and roof.

Ya I am thinking I will go with a Sumo and keep an eye on it. If I notice it moving maybe I can use some bungee straps to hold them down.

you probably will not need any straps as it locks the rod on tight
