Dace, you got that right. The (W&M) Granger rods can fetch good coin but more importantly are highly desirable fishing tools. If you can PM me more details, I could give you more information on it. Depending on it's condition a restoration could yield a very nice rod for many more years to come.

I have owned a few bamboo rods that I have restored. I had Sharpe's and Hardy as well as Dickson's and Farlow (before they became Farlow-Sharpe).
I have sold all of them. So now I have a couple garage sale rods that I restored, they are both Horrocks and Ibbotson, Beaverkill models, 9ft 7wt and 81/2ft 6wt. They are in good shape and cast a nice dry fly.
I have a Kingfisher silk line, DT 7 that I use on the 7wt and it is loaded on a JW Young Condex reel from the 1960's.
It is nice to cast these once in a while.

I have never tried the heavier line wt H-I rods, but I owned many of the of shorter 2pc rods including the H-I Tonka Queen (7'7" 5wt), Tonka Prince (7' 4/5wt), Princess (7'6" 4wt) and Pocono (7' 5wt). Oh, I did own an 8'6" H-I Chancellor that was an early impregnated bamboo rod, but the action was too loggy for me.
Personally, I like 3-5wt rods in bamboo and generally shorter lengths from about 7' to 8'6". Beyond 8' in length you really start to notice the heft of cane rods.

Dace...

Here is a web site that describes the company and their products in the time frame you are looking @.
http://home.myfairpoint.net/and96jac...copy/id14.html

Look over the rod carefully and let me know the markings/decals/handle type et al. Perhaps we can ID the rod and get an approx. value.

I have one of their rods and it's a very fine fishing pole.

regards,

Don
