Favourite Nymph Flies
I'm trying to learn to tie some nymph patterns for next spring. What is everybody's favourite early-season nymph flies?

YES!
That's what I'd put. The whole list is basically all I use for nymphs. Apart from a few realistic stone patterns.

For lake fishing, early season nymphs would definitely be chrominids in the standard red, black and green colors.

I love yellow sally's, they resemble small golden stones.
Dynamite on the bow all year, you won't be able to keep the whitefish off!!
Tougher to tie but Wholesale edmonton has some great ones right now.

FLF
here is the pics you asked for...sorry they are a little late.
Im not sure if my crappy photo skills are good enough to give you the tying recipe, I'll fire you off a copy of the fly in the mail on my next mail run
I tie a more realistic pattern but it just plain doesnt catch big fish consistantly
the biggest is tied on a size 4 tiemco 200r and the small ones are on a size 6 tiemco. We find going any smaller catches them stinky toothless wonders and smaller trout.
The dubbing is a blend of rabbit hare that i cut from rabbit hide....i find hares ear dubbing is not as easy to work with prepackaged
medium gold wire
backs are either pheasant tail or latex wing
flash back is either flashabou/ crytal flash or crystal mylar tubing.
I donot lead wrap any blindmans..as i think it deadens the flys action and causes more snags....we use splitshot
rubber is various colors and sizes.....the tiger has been really good on the lower bow lately.
hope this helps

Here are some nymph flies I've been tying
Some nice shiny Bitch Creeks in black crystal chenille
Some assorted black beadhead nymphs
And some nice shiny white nymphs in white crystal antron chenille, which I tied for perch.
Also the black things in the first pic are Bunny Strip Leeches, which I found out are terribly bouyant...

Those are some nice ties you have there.
Those white ones should do the trick for perch and trout.

Nice legs chub, and i mean on your nymphs. Spring , summer, and fall those big legs get a lot of attention.

We pushed size and legs up a notch this year...and it really had its advantages...I built some even bigger than pictured.

I have probably caught more fish on a peacock green half-back than any other fly in my fly boxes throughout the season...doesn"t matter dry line..wet line ..spin-cast / float... whatever...always produces...represents a lot of things imo caddis, damsel, dragonfly, minnows... I have used this fly all over East Kootenays, Southwestern Alberta Lakes, and Southeastern Alberta lakes...its a hell of a fly..but don't get caught up using it all the time.chronos, weavils, boatmen etc..all have their place in time.

Thanks, I think they look better in black even. High contrast with the tinsel.

Here's one I just tied that I'm rather proud of!
Brown chenille, silly legs, tinsel, prismatic pearl sheet, wire for weight
Gotta love a long legged b*tch.
