Default edmonton and area

I'm looking to take my daughter and her best friend fishing tomorrow

Any locations within a 45 trip from Edmonton or in the city that will Guarantee them some good action?

Hey Outdoorsydad,

I was recommended this past winter to go Wabamun ice fishing and me and the kids had a ton of action out there. I haven't open water fished there but ice fishing was grest for Walleye.

Your best bet would be to look into a stocked trout pond if they are open. Not sure if they are due to Covid-19. One that comes to mind is Jim Nelson Memorial Pond which is South of Devon on highway 60. That would be your best bet to get them hooked on fishing. Some ponds u catch every cast. Some are definitely slower though too.

What part of the city are you located? A 45min drive might only get you 15min out of the city. Do you have a boat or are you shire fishing? Do you want to fish for trout, pike, walleye, perch? If you’re fishing from shore rivers and stocked ponds are always a good bet. It’s a good time of year to be fishing, just about anywhere that has fish should get you a few landed. The Pembina River is a good place to try if you want to take one home for the pan.

No boat

So best river or lake or pond fishing

Anything would be great, just don’t want the girls to get skunked

Getting something big enough for the pan would be a bonus

There's a trout pond out by Bellis that usually produces good catches.
Good shoreline and nice picnic area

Cardiff pond will be the closest if you're northeast. It has probably been stocked in the last three weeks so chance of getting some little guys on the line for the youngsters are fair.

I was just out on Wabamun Sunday with the neighbour and his 11 year old son. we caught just shy of 50 Walleye within 3 hours. They were finicky though and we lost quite a few. Using a jig and minnow. The young guy had a blast. Not huge fish with the biggest at 18 inches, but fun.
