Default Elbow lake limit

Hi everyone ,
I would like to know the limits for elbow lake ? Is it a tributary to the elbow river ? Bait ban ?
Am sorry if my questions sound silly but I rather ask than sorry .
Thank you
Joe

Hey there Joe,

You will find that some guys on the forum are not so kind with questions like this... The stock answer is "Check the regulations". True enough, but some get very snarky.

Anyway, the regulations can be found online here:
www.albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/

Elbow Lake falls under "Eastern Slopes 1" and here's the kicker.....

Some lakes and streams (like Elbow Like) are not specifically listed in the regs so people often get confused. BUT in the header for ES1, it states the following:

ES1 Site-Specific Regulations
The names of most lakes and major streams appear alphabetically under “ES1 Lake and Stream Listings.” Smaller streams often are not listed, but may be included in regulations as tributaries to lakes or larger streams.

LAKES

A. For Trout-Stocked Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds in ES1 that are named under “Alberta’s Fish Stocking Program.”
Open all year – Trout limit 5; bait, except bait fish, allowed.

B. For Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds listed and fish species listed under “ES1 Lake and Stream Listings” starting on this page.
You must follow the regulations stated with each listing.

C. For other ES1 Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds not included under (A) or (B) and for fish species not mentioned at a listed lake.
Open all year – Trout limit 5; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; (where present, Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 3 [no size limit]; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10); Bait, except bait fish, allowed.

So, there you have it. I hope that helps.

Even with a 5 fish limit you'd still go hungry, brookies in there are pretty stunted.

But super delicious.

Don't be discouraged. Those are the best tasting brookies in Alberta!
