Default sturgeon record

There's no doubt he caught himself a monster sturgeon but without a picture of it on the scale & with no measurements, his claim for a new Alberta record (48 kg, 155 cm) will be disputed.

Default Nice fish but

Nice fish but not sure it weighs that much, seriously don’t think a guy with a cracked rib could lift that big of a fish like that

There is no way. The whole story seems so odd. 60 hours to get one sturgeon. When we are catching many per day in Lethbridge

Nice fish-tough crowd. Sure looks fat compared to the ones seen on this forum for the most part.

is a beauty, if she was still full of roe could easy be over the 105 pound record, but Ive seen fatter . They dont weigh nearly as much as you would think for the size . still an amazing beast! and a great memorial. would like to know the girth, my best was 72.5 long with a 24 inch girth, already spawned out. and we estimated her to be just under 90 pounds.

friends helped a guy land one from the NSR it was shorter than this one but a whole lot fatter. it was easily over 105 but they didnt weigh it. I know for a fact there is at least one 80 incher in the system down here. It was caught a while back, and thats from the biologists not the fisherman she is the fish Im chasing, probably never meet her but a mans gotta dream

They have been jumping above the weir for almost two weeks now. Right now you can just cruise right over the weir if you want.

The high water is making one great season for Lethbridge guys. We havent caught any near that size though

That was a big fish Wayne. I'm glad I was there for that. It is a nice fish he caught but not over 100 lbs.

When I was a kid I remember an article in the Western Sportsman about 3 sturgeon caught by med hat in one week that weighed over 100lbs. Biggest was 115lbs, back when they could be kept. Those fish were close to 6.5-7 feet of I recall correctly.

she was the fish of a lifetime for me, Im glad we got her fishing out of your boat. that was the best fight of my life and it hit all 3 rivers! then I puked. now thats when you know how awesome it was LMAO If this new fish was full of roe with the amount of weight they pack on with eggs, which is also why they only spawn every few years need to build up the ballast, Id say it could go maybe max 130 but it doesnt look that girthy. But Im no expert the biologists could answer that better. Its still an amazing fish no matter what, and Id be jumping up and down for joy too if i got it!

Article in the Lethbridge Herald says it was 43 inches around and 70 inches long.

Default No matter

No certified verified scale for weight, no record.

And Alberta - to my knowledge - doesn't count C&R records based on length and girth. Local AFGA chapters do though (I think).

No matter - they are a threatened / endangered species that have been around since the Devonian period. Even though they are Alberta's largest fish, they are the last species I care about in terms of breaking a record. All that matters is their survival.

If ya want to brag, post a picture of a 3lb perch. Caught in Alberta.

Agreed. As you know Wayne my PB is 67" but with a whopping 30" girth. Never weighed but I had guessed around 90#s but after talking to some "experts" it seemed the rough guesstimated weight was around 70-80#s. I dunno, but I have a hard time believing the weight of this beauty catch from the Oldman. Nevertheless an amazing catch and very well may have broken the current record on the books.

I believe the 70"

No way that girth is 43".
