Have never seen that before, just googled it and that's a cool idea, am going to for sure get one and have that in the tool box! my auger will just fit in the corners to drill the 2 holes, thanks for the idea!

Nice shack! Looks heavy though. Hope you have a Cat D9 to drag it to your spot. I built a 6x12 fully loaded shack similar to yours but it was too heavy. Gonna build another one but building an ultra light one this time.

I was worried what the weight would be when I started, if my calculations are correct it will be around the 3800 to 4000 pound mark at the most completed, it will pull just fine with the Teflon on the bottom of the skids, I have seen a few that look like they would be hard to pull, a friend has one that is easily 2 times the size of mine and I think he said its over double the weight and he has no issue pulling it on and off the ice. I guess i'll see when I go to pull it, I know ill be taking a package of hotdogs to BBQ just in case, hopefully the chemicals from the treated wood will wipe off!

So what are you pulling your shack with. And what is your friend using with his.

With the teflon how did u secure it ?

Reason i ask is i have a little single axle camper trailer that i want to build a ski for it for under the tires. Just looking for ideas. My company truck stays on shore.

Going to trailer it to the lake and then pull it with my truck the 2 km to the lake and on the lake(set of truck chains if needed), my friends pulls his with a pickup also, his does not have Teflon runners on the pipe skid but it still pulls fine, with the Teflon runner on mine it will pull easily, I welded a hitch that can fasten to the skid when I pull it so I have more control when pulling it so it doesn't slam into the back of the truck or if it needs a little tug then I can also hook up a tow strap if needed, as far as fastening the Teflon to the skid I pre drilled and counter sunk tapered type stove bolts with locking washers so that the head of the bolt was just beneath the Teflon so it wouldn't catch on the ice. depending on the weight of your single axle trailer I would think that a side by side should pull it with Teflon runners but If your going to use a quad I think it may be too heavy. I pulled another friends 8x10 shack with my quad with chains on all four tires and it was a chore to keep momentum. as far as fastening skis underneath the tires I don't know if you really need to do that, I have seen lots of converted trailers to ice huts that they just pull out with the wheels and park it, drop pails with the bottoms cut out of them through the trailer floor and start fishing, if you are set on putting skis under the tires I guess you could build the skis to use ratchet straps over the tires to secure them (I don't know how secure the skis would be) or fab the ski so that you can take a couple of rim nuts off and fasten the ski that way. try google and look at all kinds of different pics to give you some ideas that will work for you, you could also look at how the different snow planes mount their skis. Good Luck!

Ok thanks for the ideas. I was thinking my quad with a home built tow ski idea on the hitch.

With a ski under each tire it would be enough i was hoping to do the trick with the quad.

I have tugged the trailer on dry land with the quad and dont want to go too far but as i said the truck can stay on land.

That's one helluva shack! Here's mine...not nearly as fancy. I built it out of scrap lumber I had kicking around. Turned out to be really heavy. Gonna build another one but it will be super light this time.

I wasn't sure where I would need holes so I put holes everywhere...

Should have named this thead 6 months and counting! Finally finished the interior floor and misc stuff, today was the completion of the tin roof and siding with no help from the weather the past few weeks, i know one thing, I am NOT building another one anytime soon! LOL! thanks to some of the fellow AO for some of their ideas/concerns. Next step is to find a break in the weather for transport. If you see this on the lake this winter at slave stop by for a visit.

Hopefully to deter any lazy thieves and save a window or 2 , but if someone really wants to break in then well nothing I can do about it. wont be keeping anything valuable in it.

The finished product looks awesome!!

What area of slave do you plan on setting up? We usually go to the Joussard area.

If you near there I will be sure to stop in for a visit if I see you out there!

Halford hides can get what you want but you can try the other 2 places I mentioned also,

https://www.halfordsmailorder.com/sn...-acsledrunners

Also try Marmit Plastics or Zeebest plastics in Edmonton
