Default Marine Wiring, Local source

So I needed some stuff at Home Depot yesterday and on a whim I asked them if they had any small electrical connectors. Much to my surprise and delight they carry a bunch of waterproof, heat shrink butt connectors. These are the proper connector to use for your marine wiring projects. 20160927_101557.jpg

Very cool! I've used similar ones for my trailer wiring.

Are those the ones that have the little glob of solder inside them (that melts when you heat-shrink it)?

There is no solder in the crimps but they are adhesive lined shrink material that make the connections waterproof.

Whenever I've redone wiring on my boat or trailer, I also put some 3M marine heat shrink tubing over the butt/splice connector. The tube is filled with adhesive which squeezes out and seals when heated. Works like a charm.

I cut one of the heat shrink butt spice connectors open and yes, they are tinned copper. Looks like a solid connector.
