Battle Rat I commend you. A pet peeve of mine is when people can't admit when there wrong. Bottom line is all of us are wrong sometimes.
Own it and move on.
Not trying to pick on you I just found it refreshing to see.
I put one in the pipe when I'm still hunting or sitting in a blind or stand.
I'm currently using a BLR in .270 so if a critter appears I just have to pull back on the hammer and I'm good to go.

Have never used the safety on any gun.

Default safeties and kids

In our club's youth rifle program, we teach trigger finger and muzzle control, and looking at what's beyond the target.

Most of the kids who've been first introduced to guns by their parents, when asked to state one of the rules of gun safety, will usually say to always use the safety. When prompted for other safe rules, they have no clue.

It is not easy to dispel a child's almost magical belief that a rifle's safety lever or button is the be all end all of safe gun handling.

Thanks Thinlizzy.
I had a brain fart when thinking about bolt guns.
Must have been the BLR I was thinking about.
I too like the control one has with an exposed hammer.

I was taught never to trust the safety and to instead use proper firearm control. I never have a round in the chamber unless I intend to shoot, and I never point a gun at anything (loaded or not) that I do not intend to kill.

I never use the safety. I rely on the above, and always keeping my finger out of the trigger guard until I am ready to make the shot.
