Default Fish for Inconnu?

As anyone deliberately targeted this species?

I'm heading back to the homeland, the NWT, for a week of fishing. Last time I was up there I hooked a very large "coney" as we called them as a kid. I've only ever caught them incidentally over the years and as a kid we'd beat them with sticks and throw them on shore for the dogs ( a different time)

My buddy smoked it and it was pretty tasty. The fish itself tugged pretty good on the line but it was over 20 lbs so part of that was just mass. Just curious if it's a much known or fished species.

I would send Andrew from the wild north YouTube show a message. He could probably set you up for a good spot to target them.

The guys I hang with make Andrew look like a city boy. Lol I went to school with his Mother and know his family. I grew up in Hay River.

Ft Providence is a cool spot. If you want to hook up with an outstanding local fish guide there ask around for Louis LaCorne.

Too bad the possession limit is one fish. But I'll eat a lot while I'm there. i'm on my way to North Nahanni and Root River. Might stop and fish Horn river with Mr Louis though.

We met an old timer honey maker by Radium one summer when we stopped in to buy his goods. He had pics of this weird fish on his wall. It was big. I had to write down the name as I would never remember it lol. Ever since I have wanted to catch one.

Hope you find some on the end of your line. I cant say when I will get the chance.

Lucky you.
I only spent 2 years in the NWT (2014-2016) and I miss fishing up there dearly.
Once I get myself a decent travel trailer, I might just go to Hay River...

Fishing in southeastern Alberta is not great to me...I miss the trees!

TrophyPikeHunter was just up on the McKenzie a few weeks ago and some guys in a group they were with caught a few Inconnu.

Looked like some pretty good sized ones - hard to tell from pictures - but to me looked like 20lbers (he will have a better idea of how heavy they were). I know they get twice that size but it's still pretty neat to see something that big come out of the water in the Whitefish family (although Talking Moose is right they look more like Tarpon).

They also caught some big pike - many over 20lbs over the course of the few days they fished.

Maybe he will share pics? ..........
