22 250 load suggestions

I recently acquired a 22 250 Remington Mdl 700 BDL. I have a supply of Nosler Varmageddon 55 gr FB Tipped and 40 gr FBHP as well as WC760, WC 748 and Varget powders. Would appreciate suggestions for fur friendly load data from those of you experienced in using these components. Thanks

The 22-250 is not a areal fur friendly round. If I were ypu I would see if I could get a load worked up with Varget and 55 grn bullets.. Win 760 works well too as does H380. The latter 2 are not s temp stable though.

I use a 50gr vmax and varget in my 22-250 but they definitely are not “fur friendly “

55 grain for 22-250 and 50 grain for 223 and never ruined any fur unless you hit bone. heart lung shots explode inside and seldom do you even get a bit of shapnel exiting. shot a small female twice from back porch 2 weeks ago and neighbor picked her up to make hats and mess inside but no exit on either shot. The only difficulty with sxsp is you cannot exceed 3400 fps or bullet is so fragile it can vaporize. My best accuracy on both rifles is 3250 fps so it works for me

Either of those bullets will work well on coyotes if put in the right place. You may have the odd blowout but not enough to say it's not fur friendly. Of the powders you have varget would be my first choice as it's very temp stable and good for use in the cold.

I had very mixed results on coyotes with my 22-250. I generally shot Hornady SX 55 gr bullets ahead of W760...one would have no exit and the next would take out half the off side. Eventually found out that I did better with my 6mm and 100 partitions, two small holes are better than losing a huge patch on half your dogs.

I found the 55 gr Vamageddons to work excellent in my 223 - very rarely an exit hole on a coyote. Just curious to give the 22 250 a try as it would extend my range a bit

I've always used 55 gr ballistic tips sitting on top of 748. I don't recommend for being fur friendly on coyotes though. I just chuck them in the trees or ditch to get them off the hay. Usually not worth skinning

If it was me I would run the 40 gr bullets as fast as possible .

I too thought that the Hornady sxsp were limited to 3400 fps. Just for fun I loaded some up and chronographed them well above this velocity and they did not blow up. Maybe Hornady is being overly cautious or maybe things like twist come into play.

Hornady actually specifies a max of 3600 fps for the 50 grain SPSX, it used to be right on the box. I haven't looked at any of the new boxes I bought a couple of years ago. I had a 1:8 twist 223, it would vaporize the 50 grain SPSX at 3,600 fps. The 55 I have pushed over 4000 in a 22-250 with a 1:12 with no problems.

Both are excellent fur friendly bullets.

I run 55gr nos bt and 55gr Seirra blitzkings in my two 22-250s fur friendliness is dependent on shot placement. Generally on a bigger furred up dog they are amazing. Shoot a skinny dog a bit poorly and you get large holes.

Maybe they changed the recipe so as not so frangible. i recall shooting at a stone cold dead coyote at about 125 yards and hearing the bullet go whizbang as if it had hit a fence wire. No fence between me and the dog that proceeded to run for the hills unharmed. Didnt have a chrono but estimated 22 250 were just over 3500 fps. that was the one and only time I loaded above 3400 fps. Only fur bullets I have used for over 20 years is the sxsp with mostly great results if I do my part.

35.5 gr of varget with a 50gr Vmax gave me a super accurate load in my HB savage
Not exactly what you are looking for but 35.5 is not a max load.
