I had my pre 64 M70 rebarreled at D. Henry gunmakers in Bentley with a Ron Smith barrel. He did a very good job. A bit expensive though.

Wonder why?

The rings certainly are nice!
It's funny cause it was that very conversation with D'Arcy a couple of weeks ago that prompted him to send me that picture. He likes the shank to wrap around the shoulder of the cartridge.

Well, still a few decisions to make but so far I've decided on the boys at Corlane's to do the work for me. I'll be rebarreling with a Kreiger barrel, likely in 7RM and I've decided on a McMillan Hunters Edge Ultralight stock. Let the build begin.

That should turn out to be a nice rifle. Stainless or chrome moly tube?

so whats the deal? you having enough fun with 140-ish grain stuff with your 270 wsm that want to play with 168&180's? worried the .264 would then take the place of the less romantic sako a7? I could see that....but otherwise there is something very cool about a pre 64 .264 i'd wanna leave it same caliber.....130 or 140 bergers at way up there velocities would be the ultimate 1000 yrder with speed to keep wind drift and drop to absolute minimums available in something that won't kill your shoulder....tough call but would my guess be right on the 140 gr already covered with the sako?

how bout scope? would that be a rig you might try dial up with? my vote is leupy dial up over some euro....fine for the sako of course but don't do it to the 64!

Ya, just figured the 7mm would give me the choice of heavier bullets plus I'm going to go to a 24" barrel this time to keep the weight down a bit. I'm hoping to come in at 6.5 pounds.

I'll likely throw a Rapid Z 800 on it as well. I just love how fast that system is to shoot. I've got a turret Conquest on my .338 but I honestly prefer the Rapid Z......it's just so much faster...especially if you have someone calling the range.

That's a big assumption with out knowing barrel contour. Going with a 24" #3 contour so I'm not sure I'd guarantee it. There's a lot of weight in that action.

It will balance well forward of the front guard screw. I will guarantee it.

For reference, this rifle is in an EDGE compact and has a barrel with a shank only 1/4 of in inch long and mic's .560 at the muzzle at 22" and it balances.
