Come on, nobody else has any dog pics???

Kiva out for a run. She is 7 months now and coming along just fine. She had a solid point in the cattails on 7 or 8 hen pheasants this day.

Wind was blowing pretty good.

Parker has been "leash bound" for months. Starting to let him stretch his legs a little - it's like lighting a booster rocket...

He's so happy to get to run though.

Default Spring Snows in SK

Great day in the field last Sunday!
Some friends from Edmonton trekked to our fair province to chase the wiley snow goose. With the late spring migration, we were on the leading edge, but numbers were respectable. Thanx to Dean Davenport for the stellar photography.
What a great way to shake off the long winter blahs - for 2-leggers and 4-leggers alike. The pooch had a little rust to shake off...
Hope AB changes the regs to allow you all the same opportunity.

We ALL were in heaven - perfect weather for being out there! I think Csilla is still vibrating...lol

Hope to get out a few more times before the geese leave. Then, the relatively long wait for fall...

My 14 month old Cooper on his first spring snow goose shoot on Monday.

Vis, great to meet you, you missed a better day on Monday. And ditto, thanks to Dean for exceptional photos, as always!

Thanks for the report VR, and thanks for posting on here.

Believe me, the wait is "relatively" longer for this e of us without a spring bird season.

I find that shed hunting and packing along the .22 for rabbits is helping. But I am also finding that everytime I am at work and we start to talk about hunting, its a quick spiral into the hunting jitters lmao

If the AB 'powers that be' don't get you all your spring snow conservation season next year, just hop into the truck and head east. We'll show you a good time. We even let labs in the field to retrieve the odd goose...lol - just kidding, farmer...Coop was awesome.

Training Kiva/Parker should help the 'jitters' and 'ease the pain' - no?

Gotta ask, why wait till you get property?? My plan was to wait until we were no longer renters, but after visiting some very young puppies 8 days old (big mistake by the way ) I had to get one sooner lol. Weve had dakota since about end of november 2011 or dec 7th lol. She does great with home life, plays well with the kitties and other dog, loves the yard and LOVES car/truck rides but gets super stoked after the tires leave the pavement lol. Love my Dakota

A few from Cooper's first trips to the field.

Seems I can only post one photo at a time?

I have been delinquent in posting pics for quite some time. I posted a pic of Kiva and her first wild birds on the 2013 Upland Hunting thread, but this thread is about the dogs, so here are some pics of the beasts from training and testing this summer:

Kiva and Parker waiting their turn for a retrieve while my daughter and SIL's lab Mika fetches a bumper.

Mika the yellow lab, Parker and Kiva hanging out on the patio on a hot afternoon.

Tried throwing the quintessential 'Canadian Retrieve'.... I call it the 'Double Double'.

Getting these two to pose for a photo can be challenging; usually one is facing one way looking for a bird to chase, and the other is facing the other looking for the same. Lucked out here when a raven flew over just as I was setting up to take a pic.

Kiva waiting her turn at the NAVHDA Natural Ability test in Whitefish MT in June. She managed a 112 despite some goofy behaviour.

We lost a bumper (that I threw, apparently, too far) so we returned with my boat later in the day. Aside from a rather undignified water entry, Kiva retrieved to the boat 3 for 3, the last throw was onto land (about 30 yards), but she insisted on bringing it to me out in the boat.

2 days before Huns opened I had Kiva out for a training run and she locked up beautifully on a hen pheasant, and then promptly came 'unglued' when the pheasant flushed and she bumped about 300 mallards of a narrow little slough.

Parker figured out how to knock the suet/seed pucks off the bird feeder... this wasn't the first occurrence, just the first time I caught him. I was thinking that the birds had been might ravenous in the weeks before.

Nice pictures!

How did you make out on the huns yesterday?

We put a few ruffies up but as soon as that noon bell rang there were quads on every trail and in the south castle river. Didnt see much of anything after that. I cant wait until they close the mountains up to ATV vehicles.

Going to take out Wyatt for some huns today. Probably wont get to shoot anything but the exposure will be good for him.

x2.

I made a post on another 2013 specific upland thread; Kiva worked hard and we ended up with 2 huns, and 2 pigeons. My shooting was awful, otherwise we would have limited within an hour.

Today we went out but it was brutally hot, even worse then yesterday. Parker had an awesome point on a couple pheasants, and Kiva retrieved a Hun that I bumped (my fault) and shot.

Hoping the next few mornings are cooler..

Default English Setters

Here are a few pics of our English Setter pups, Piper and Scout. They are just over a year old and are currently a few weeks into hunting boot camp.
