Never caught a true trophy and most lakes I fish are CNR so cannot keep any anyways.

I think the only time I'd keep a larger-than-average fish is if it were injured to the point that I didn't think it would make it if released. Little fellers taste better (and aren't as old and fecund).

I always release the real big ones in freshwater. In the ocean the big ones get bonked

Default trophy fish

Have thrown back some big ones on the lake but not before taking some pics. When a guy remembers to bring the camera.
Same as Jorg though when fishing for Salmon, Halibut the big ones get invited for dinner.

Replica's have gotten so good that there is little or no reason to keep a trophy get the length girth and good photos and thats all you need if you want a mount the pictures are the proof the mount the memory. Never crack or deteriorate

BANG! Last two posts is me. You got pictures, you got video, what more do you need? Replica mounts look just as good.

I would NEVER keep a trophy when it comes to fresh water fishing.

There's just no point to for me. I'm not going to hang it on my wall, and even if I wanted a wall hanger, replicas are the way to go. On top of that, they taste like crap.

Nope, a couple of pics for the old photo album, and back on its merry way. I'd much rather have the chance of catching it again some day, or better yet, it's offspring.

When I was young I was fishing where Fish Creek enters the Bow ( this was when it was outside the city limits ) and I caught a Brown that took me 3/4 of an hour to bring in with my fly rod. It was a real challenge for a 12 year old to release a big big hooked jaw Brown and not take it home to show my dad.

Dodger.

Side note: It sure was a great place to hunt ducks back then.

I am more interested in the sport/fight and a photograph when it comes to most of my fishing, again like others when it's the ocean though, it's "whack 'em and stack 'em" action .

Ayr.

Never caught a trophy, but I'd release it. I mostly CNR anyway...unless mom wants some fish for dinner that night.
