Default Taber Lake

A few months ago we drove out to Taber Lake. Drilled a hole where we do every year, and hit mud bottom. Drilled a dozen holes. Hit mud every time. I've fished here for years and never seen the lake this shallow, there is practically no water. Any idea what happened? I know the was lake is only 4 feet deep for the most part, so I doubt the pike made it. Too bad, used to be some monsters in there.

Thoughts?

Are you talking about the sugar factory lake? I grew up in Taber and use to fish that lake quite a bit. There is some deeper water that the fish will be concentrated at if they did drop the water. I wouldn't say there is any monsters in there but there is some pretty good fish.

I have caught a couple eyes out of there over the years but have never been able to target them on purpose. It is a tough place to fish after a couple weeks of warm weather. The weeds hit the top of the water column in no time and then you have to fish the few spots that there is no weeds. I usually get out there a few times a year in the little aluminum and I am thinking of giving it a try to see if I can find walleyes right after ice out.

I thought maybe that's is what happened, thanks. There are a few deep holes, but they are best accessible by canoe. I just noticed that the whole area I did my ice fishing at has no water, only ice on top of mud. And yes, this is the sugar plant lake.
