Default Last trip to Pigeon of 2015

Well headed out to Pigeon to fill the remaining tags my friend and I had left ( 1 for me and 2 for her all class A ). Weather was great, fishing was good and the hogs were biting. First fish caught was under 50 cm so back it went. We were working a circle of about 10 holes ranging 10 feet to 24 feet deep. Best luck in 20-24 feet. Ended up filling all 3 tags. 58cm 2.9lbs, 59 cm 3.1lbs and 55 cm 2.7lbs. Great day over all, on the ice at 1:30 off the ice at 7:00 pm. Fish are filleted and ready for a big feed for my Birthday on Tuesday. Well and supper tonight.

Very nice! I assume no trouble getting on and off? Thinking of heading out today to fill my last two tags as well.

Walk on only in my opinion. ice is sketchy on the shore and really chunky when drilling.

Oh yeah. There is no way I'm driving on. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to hurdle any open water at shore.

First winter of no commercial fishing, will this see bigger bag limits to anglers? I am hearing the opposite, what do you hear?

According to F&W, tags expire when the season expires and new licences need purchased... I guess I won't be filling my last tag

Nice catch! Back before the collapse...a hog was double digit weights!

F&W are telling me that the tags expire March 31st in spite of the lake being open until April 16th.. They said once you need to renew your licence for the following season, the tags are no longer valid

I was going to say that earlier but found this:

Quote:
Walleye Harvest Seasons have been extended to allow use of the Special Walleye Licence tags for the open angling season on the following lakes: Please refer to the current Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations for the open season dates.
◦Newell Lake
◦Pigeon Lake
◦Wolf Lake (66-7-W4)
◦Fawcett
◦Garner
◦Long (63-19-W4)
◦Pinehurst
◦Baptiste
◦Lac Ste Anne
◦Elinor
◦Whitefish
◦Iosegun
◦Smoke
This is from MyWildAlberta...which contradicts what F&W has said. Pigeon aint closed yet. Hard call. To be on the safe side though, forget it and wait for next year. Just my opinion though.

It was explained to me that once you have to purchase a new license, Walleye tags were no longer valid. I am just giving a heads up

Naturally I went yesterday for some C&R, and would have been able to fill my last B tag... Oh well, had much fun all winter trying
