Default So on the last day of hard water.....

Buddy and I headed out to Wab yesterday for our last outting. Got to our spot by Fallis around 11am and drilled a few holes and instantly Fish On. So after a dozen walleyes and perch a pike decides to stroll on by and my jawjacker gets hit. Place my jigging rod down on the rod holder and run over to the jawjacker... nothing... then i hear a noise from my jigging hole... rod holder on its side... rod...gone! LOL

Standing there kinda laughing at myself and feeling like an idiot. Grabbed my other rod in my bag... an ultralight....started jigging on that....bam Fish On...craaackk.... rod snapped!! (still landed the pike lol).

So down 2 rods.... i go take the rod on the jawjacker and started jigging with that, 10-15min....odd how nothing was showing on the flasher, decided to switch lures, as i'm reeling in, I feel the line stuck. I look down the hole and it seems to have caught on the side of the ice hole. Thought to myself...kinda odd for a small kastmaster to be caught there... none the less, dipped my rod into the hole, started reeling and as i was pulling up.....the kastmaster was hooked onto a fishing line!! MY Fishing line LOL. started reeling and eventually saw my rod, reached in and grabbed it, pulled it out of the water and it too started getting a tug behind it... the pike was still on!!

I could not stop laughing, i caught my lost rod and the pike that tried to thief it LOL.

End of the day, 20+ wallies, 20+ perch, 8 pikes, and 1 rod

Rod on the left was the one retrieved

Hope everyone had a good hard water season!!!
See all in the open waters and warm sun!!

If that's not a great way to end a day of fishing, I don't know why is!

So glad you posted!

We saw you guys leaving and I have to give you guys a big thumbs up for being one of the only guys to follow the parking laws even if it meant walking a little further...

Sounds like you had some fun. Glad you got your rod back. I should have gone today with a buddy, because he's been texting me pics. of big pike and a monster burbot all day.

Thanks! We didnt want to risk getting a ticket and figured it would be easier for others to load/unload their gear

Nice!! I'm not sure why that spot this year has been super good to us. I've never caught so much walleye and perch at wab till this year.....pike count has gone down but the ones landed have been a good size. Still have yet to catch a whitefish or a burb from Wab but there's always next year =)

Awesome way of ending the season, glad you caught your rod back, nothing beats reeling a rod back up a hole

Should have gave me a call Shawn. I was over on the south east side an did well. Lots of 3-6 lb gators, and a burbot that was about six. Lost a huge one at the hole. Went out yo the same holes today and did really well. Lost a whitefish at the hole, but got one 42" pike, but thats a rough measure due to a loose tape, holding the fish down, taking a pic and drinking a beer at the same time.

Glad you got your equipment back...Never underestimate the power of a hungry northern and a drag that might be a bit tight. My dad almost lost his set-up yesterday in a similar situation. The holder was attached to a 5 gal pail loaded with gear that was fairly heavy, tipped it right over. I'm always a bit leary leaving a rod unattended in pike waters.

What a fantastic story! Great that you have a picture to go with it. That'll be one you'll still be telling the great grandchildren! Thanks for sharing.
