Default Farewell Hard Water Season

Thought last weekend was going to be my last but I couldn't go out on a mediocre note with only 3 average lake trout caught so today we hit up trusty old Wab and the fish were there both in numbers and size.

Now bring on the open water, I am tired of this cold weather and ice lol.

My 3 best of the day.

You know it is a good day when a ~32 incher looks small!

Congrats on some great fish Rav. I was thinking of hitting wab on Tuesday and am wondering how access was for you. I imagine the the shoreline is pretty muddy and sloopy.

Obviously is walk on only. Rubber boots required at shore but on the ice it was fine although with this warm weather it might start getting slushier.

Nice hogs!! Congrats!

I'm sure it was just the one spot and the rest of the lake is dead....looks like those pike dodged the walleye bullet....whew!

In 5 or 6 trips to Wab this winter this was my first what I consider decent Wab pike(36+ inches).

I am sure the big girls are still in there but they have been hard to find this year(comparatively last winter I got one on my only ice trip out and a couple other guys caught nice ones the same day).

Last winter caught a couple walleye and it was a big think for most people to catch a Wab walleye. This year I caught literally probably a couple hundred of the darn things and have caught them every spot I have tried fishing... They took over a lot of the used to be prime Pike locations and I don't know if it force the big pike to go elsewhere or what but I would definitely do believe the Walleye stocking has affected wab. Now we just have to wait and see if it is for the overall good or bad of the lake.

Some more pictures of this weekends open water trip.

Only 5 days between hard water and open water fishing! Upgraded my kayak to a Hobie Outback this weekend as well.
