Default Is it normal for mamma and baby bears to be out still?

Was out in the white tail patch today trying to sweat out some Sat fun pounds an get the boy on a buck.

The deer are moving great now but.

Seems there’s a momma grizz with a really small cub wanding around the same area. I expect she’s chewing on the couple of gut piles that the ravens were on a ways over.

So we bugged out of there.

Ive seen lone grizz and black bear track in mid Nov, but never a momma and little one.

This is normal? Not uncommon?

Interesting...... I suppose if it's not terribly cold yet and they are still able to keep feeding they keep going? I would have thought the internal instinct would be for them to hole up by now.

I thought that Black Bears can be active until the first week in December if conditions were milder. Grizzly Bear has many unpredictable variations and not until the last couple years have I heard that there is no deep hibernation. My info is based on hear say too so take it for what is worth.

I tracked a sow and 2 cubs on the trap line last winter at 35 below in January. They traveled a couple miles down the line. No idea what the heck they were doing out at that temp

Warmer raining weather bears not interested in going to sleep. Most blacks along with female grizz will hibernate when real cold weather and lots of snow hits. Boar grizz stay out late and actually get up for stroll anytime in mild winter.

They don't check the calendar. With one small cub, betting she's a first timer who hasn't learned the ropes.
