Fish food tends to be attracted to light

If the light is attached to a hook and attached to your fishing line it is legal to use.

Hmmm

Might have to hit the dollar store for some micro flashlights and silicone.

Not legal to use the light on the camera...as the rules are written, unless there is a hook on it. Then you can only have one other line in the water as the camera with hook would count as one.

if you were out in your ice shack at night and had a flashlight for setting up and getting around in the dark but not used for actually fishing would that be a problem? just wondering if it would be because you could shine it down your hole.

F&W would be drinking their meat through a straw if they tried to charge people for having a flashlight in their hut at night time.

thanks, I found it:

It Is Unlawful To:

...•Use lights to sportfish unless the light is attached to a hook or line used in angling. This includes visible lights that are emitted by underwater cameras.

I used small glow sticks fishing walleye at night in open water ~ 3 feet up the hooks. Helps to see where hooks are (hard to see green braid), but as for attracting fish I felt different ways different nights. I know from fishing years ago for a whitefish type of fish where lights were legal - it liked the edge of the light spot, not the center, but wouldn't bite in the dark either

I was wondering about this light thing too. Does it mean that glow-in-the-dark jig heads are illegal? Something glowing in the dark is emitting light, right? But that is often the advice given to fish for burbot on this site.

Yes legal. We fish the NSR at night a fair bit during the warmer months, and have had several chats with the F&W guys when they come by about it, and we've always been told it's fine.

It's attached to your line and therefore legal.

And thanks Geezle. Ill be using my headlamp during the summer. I hate leaving right when the fish are going crazy
