There's no known plans of them coming to Canada.

I wouldn't say move over, they cater to 2 different clientele. Scheels has more sporting goods, athletic wear, and some fishing/hunting, while Cabela's is mainly hunting camping fishing etc..

If I remember correctly, the white elephant used to be the place with great deals. Back in the 80's you could buy a pound of powder for $5.99. bullets and primers were dirt cheap as well.

I've been to Scheel's in Minot lots. They kind of remind me a bit of the Dick's Sporting Goods chain. Different than than Cabela's with more athletic gear. Still a very nice store.

Minot store really picked up in the clothing. I was disappointed in that.

I go to Scheels in Grand Forks and Fargo. Way better customer service than Cabelas in Winnipeg. Cabelas Winnipeg is nothing but a glorified clothing store. Gun counter is a joke. I would personally welcome a Scheels to Winnipeg.

It’d be nice if Cabela’s had some real competition here. Too bad it ain’t happening.

Default Just left

Just left Scheels, 5x the staff than customers. Prices are very high. Used Auto 5’s, ‘70’s era, $1100 US, condition 7 out of 10, as an example. Camo I can get in Canada for cheaper, and that’s dollar for dollar, not including the exchange yet!

After reading your comment You started me thinking. We have several sports/outdoors stores going broke closing or restructuring (Wholesale Cables/Bass Pro Milarm). Is getting the best price possible so important that we are loosing our retail options? I dont want to have to buy everything online. I like going into a shop and being able to handle the article I wish to buy. I am worried about the trend.

I respect a person who is financially responsible and watches there pennies. I just worry there wont be any stores left if we all buy on price alone and dont care about service or convience.

You know, just fine IMHO. At least at cabelas they keep the shelves stocked and you can have things shipped to the store. They provide jobs, their employees are helpful and polite, and I pretty much get what I need. Before cabelas I was ordering dang near everything online. Now it's probably 60/40 in favor of cabelas, so I'm saving a lot on shipping.
