Default My (slow) dino season

Thought I would share some photos of the few sturgeon I have been lucky enough to catch this year. I have put in ridiculous amounts of hours on the riverbank this year and have only hooked into 4 sturgeon (double my amount from last year). The only thing keeping me motivated is that I have been extremely lucky when it comes to overall size. All the sturg I have caught this year have been 30lbs +. I figure I have about 100 rod hours in for every sturgeon so as you can imagine I savoured every second of reeling these powerful beasts in! Weird thing is 3 of the 4 I have caught this year were all the same length, 50" to the fork

My first and biggest (will probably never beat this one)

This is my "smallest" of the year, 50" to fork, 17" girth

50" to fork, 19" girth

And my most recent, 50" to fork, 20" girth. This one fought like a true champion!

Congrats on what I consider to be a very good sturgeon year. You don't mention what other species you also caught on your sturgeon setup, but there must have been a few. Sounds like you have certainly put in the hours in your quest for sturgeon.
Very nice pics. Very large sturgeon.

You can catch every single species in the river on sturgeon "slider" rigs. Last year I caught every species listed in the regs and this year I have caught all of them except a Sauger. Damn Saugers are few an far between it seems

Default Nice Fish!

Slow Sturgeon year is better than no Sturgeon year, they are not an easy fish to catch but well worth every hour...im sure you agree. Some very impressive fish there, congrats!!!

Obviously you know that you gotta put int the time to get rewarded, and get them when they're hungry. WTG!

A little too long to measure properly on my own It was 66"-68" fork legth. It was as long as my arm span was and she wasn't exactly easy to lay out straight so I couldn't get an exact measurement unfortunately.

Going this weekend for 3 days. Hopefully hook a few. We have had a great year and have managed 5+ every time we've been out! My little guy has drug in some larger than he is and is completely hooked!

Ghetto is right !!!! Mitch definitely keeps me entertained with his destroyed chair that has been " broken in perfect " he says while I'm waiting for a Dino to bite and his chair to collapse oh yeah don't forget his oversized rubber boots that he can barely walk in. I've seen him wipe out more than a few times. I'm laughing as I type this. I say thanks again Mitch for the entertainment buddy.
