Next in the construction, was the sides and bottom of the boat. The plywood is marine grade douglas fir. Since plywood here is limited to 8 foot lengths, a process called scarfing is done to join the sheets together. There are several methods to achieve scarfing, but I prefered using an electric planer and belt sander. This allowed me to get the angle desired to glue pieces together.
For all glue and sealing, I used a two part epoxy system from West system. This is both durable and water proof. Here is the bottom glued together (1/2 inch plywood)
Once the prep work and pieces are cut to size, its a matter of putting the puzzle together. Each frame is glued and clamped to the sides. Once all the frames are attached, I pre-drilled holes, injected epoxy and drilled each frame to sides and bottom. Each screw is then epoxied to seal from water.
