Default SO Proud!

I just have to brag about my boy. It was his first birthday today, so I got him a Chukar hunt. He did great. Still tries to get right up to the birds a lot of the time, but that will come. We did see some really great points. He even found a couple of cripples (one of which we never would have found without him). He obviously had a lot of fun, and so did I. It's great to see how far he has come along; and I'm a very proud dad. Going to try and get him out on some pheasants and grouse this fall...wild birds will be a bit trickier, but I don't have to pay for them.

I know NOTHING of hunting dogs. But that is a beautiful picture. Calendar worthy.

Of course he's talking about his dog. The dog is the only living thing in the pic.... Lol. Dogs can't look proud?

Well, he's proud, too...but the title was referring to me. I'm very pleased with him.

Awesome!
Glad to see his recent string of misfortunes hasn't affected him one bit!

Lost of praise and a BBQ'd pork chop in his supper. Then he slept for the better part of 14 hours, getting up only occasionally to change position or to go and to his business. He was worn out.

Training is always necessary -- start with wings, then on to birds in tightly controlled situations. Once it's ready, move on to field work.
Schaffer has very good instincts, great prey drive, nearly boundless energy, and strong will, which are all great characteristics, but it has taken a lot of work (and patience) over the past 45 weeks to get him to this point (hahaha). He still tends to jump as soon as the bird moves (we're working on that). He was on a check cord for most of the birds yesterday.

If you want pointers (hahaha), please PM me. Our membership with Wildrose NAVHDA has been very helpful to us, in terms of the help and tips with training.

He is. and he loves flirting with lady drivers who pull up beside us at stop lights. (or who walk by in the parking lot).
