Just Spent 3 nights/4 days in willmore.
Spruce and ruffed Grouse absolutely everywhere.
I dont know who they were driving crazier, the dog or myself.
Already got a weekend upland hunting trip planned for opening week.

My dogs are tired of the frozen birds, time for the live fluttering ones! Gun is clean and greased, ammo is in the box, come on upland season!
I'm cooking my first couple ruffies over a camp fire, can't beat that.

I don't know if my new .22 is up to the challenge or not. Last year I had my first taste of grouse, I have a strong desire for more!

I managed two young grouse last week when they flew into the shop window. 4 of them walked out on the laneway between the buildings picking hoppers, bugs and gravel, I stood and watched sipping on my coffee 30 feet away, one took off, flew right into the window of the other shop and down on the ground, the others looked at it then went back to pickin bugs, minute later another took off right into the same window and down but not quite out, the other two looked then went back to pickin the bugs, minute later another took wing and bang right into the same window and flopped dead on the ground, by this time the second one was coming around and wobbled away down the side of the building into a clump of tall grass to gather its wits. The fourth bird stood there for a few seconds looking at the window and walked over to the two dead birds looked up at the window, bobbed its head a couple times and headed down the lane to the clump of grass the stunned bird went to. I collected the two dead ones off the driveway so they wouldn't get squashed by a vehicle and put them where the cats would find them.

I am not as much into ruffed grouse anymore, but it was nice to come across a flock of about twenty Hungarian partridges while out shooting ground squirrels last week. They are my favorite bird to shoot, and to eat.

Ruffies, huns, sharpies, ducks and Geese, I always look forward to bird season, definitely my biggest passion, but this year I am looking forward to it, more than ever.

x2 on that!

Although, a little discouraged after spending 6 hours in the woods on Monday without seeing a single bird. Hopefully a lack of snow didn't hurt the flocks too much.

Some of my favourite times in the woods are with family and friends, hunting upland birds.

I feel it too, Cat. Can't wait for this season to start!

Seeing alot less ruffed in the GP area this year and alot more feather piles and goshawks. Maybe a little quiet, too bad... I love beer battered nuggets and ginger dip even the spruce taste great that way.
