Question Owls eat wild turkeys?

We came across a gruesome find by our campsite in the Crowsnest Pass yesterday. What it was was a thing with black feathers, missing its head and a hole in the chest. I'm not sure how long it was there for but it couldn't of been there for very long. We were talking to someone at the campground and he said it was most likely a wild turkey that had its head and liver eaten by an Owl. I'm wondering if this could be true and if this is what Owls do? I should also note that its safe to rule out that this was from a poacher as it was in the campsite right next to ours, nobody was staying there and we're close enough that we would've heard something like a gunshot. If anyone wants to take a look at this bird, I have a (disgusting) picture of it.

Pulling head off with talons is definitely a great horn owl technique.

The talon tearing method is also performed on cats.

We had a couple of barn cats that were scalped..sort of. They lived

We had a flock of wild turkeys that hung around the yard in the winter. Every now and then an owl would take one just like you said. They would eat a chunk of Breast meat too.

Turkey seems big for another bird to be taking on like that. I guess if an owl got the jump on it anything is possible. I could see where they could take young ones, crows will kill young ones, too. That could sure be a scrap to watch with a Tom and and owl though.
