Well the keepers of the land hunted them to extinction not the wolves or bears

Might be the only animal that they wouldn’t have the “right” to hunt

It seems like a very interesting project. A real life Jurassic park. What could go wrong lol

Seems like a very interesting project from the scientific perspective, however I can't find any reasons WHY this would be a worthwhile investment of millions of dollars.

Talk about tone deaf. Does right now seem like a good time to mess with Mother Nature. Their extinction was probably caused by mammoth Covid.😊

It gets people attention, it opens the door to cloning, it's high profile, etc. Imagine the billions to be made in the pet industry alone. Pet dies, no problem, we can clone it.

The problem with pet cloning is that the appearance would be the same but the personality wouldn't. To me, it really doesn't make much sense to release strange mutants in an established ecosystem. Fast forward 50 years and they'll be culling them from helicopters.

I do admire the scientific ambition of the individuals taking on such a task, and it certainly would be interesting to work on a project like that.

If they were raised for a delicacy meat it would be worth more than Kobi beef

Maybe that's the end game.

As if we didn't have more urgent needs to worry about. Must be a government grant involved.

sounds to me like a kickstarter program.

Sure fire money maker, invest only $11,199 and get back 40x your investment in 3 short years!!

That is about the last ones that were stuck on wrangell island

Of course inbreeding will be an issue with large mammals stuck on a secluded island

You know they are investing millions with a M not billions with a B

That’s probably pocket change to the investors backing this

Do you buy a new mega yacht or keep the old one and bring mammoths back from extinction 🤷*♂️

The proposed project won't bring back the wooly mammoth, but make an elephant/mammoth hybrid, a mutant of an animal. I can't think of any good reason to introduce a whole population of them into the ecosystem.

It is intriguing from the scientific perspective, however the concept lacks logical reasoning justifying it's very existence IMHO.

Did you read the link in your article about the mammoth trap they just uncovered in Mexico? There's plenty of evidence that early hunters wiped out the mega fauna in North America.

I think the money would be better spent saving the caribou than reconstructing the mammoth population.

I don't think it was the link WDF was commenting on, but rather the wording used on the post by Marky Mark.

I just put in my zone 534 woolly mammoth bow tag.

Once I hit 20 I’m hoping my number will come up. Until then just putting in an X.

Now to start making my special arrow head.

Now to make the bow.
