Pics with the new camera!! Dogs, ducks and geese...

Ok so I got my Rebel XT in today and am very pumped! Here are some shots I took this afternoon. We took the dogs for a walk along the Sheep River, which turned into a swim bc they're crazy! But we also spooked some ducks and geese and I got to see what the cam can do without me being very well versed on it's inner workings. Enjoy!

Well by the looks of the pics you got your moneys worth with your camera especailly those mallard and geese pics, very nice.

Sweet shot of the mallards. Looks as though you got the camera figured out pretty well. Was out photographing ducks with a buddy last week and he got an amazing shot of a drake coming in for a landing and you can actually see a band on its leg. Shooting one is rare but photographing one with a band...what are the odds. You could actually read part of it in the photo.

Looks like the dogs were enjoying the warm weather too. Nice pics.....makes me wish waterfowl season wasn't so far away.

Ya, that should make a great cover. Definitely one of the coolest duck shots I've ever seen. Can't wait to see it.

Bruce, I'm using the Canon PhotoStudio and Digital Photo Professional that came with the Camera with a Mac. Awesome program, but I'm still trying to figure it all out. Love it though.

Ryan, after I saw how well the shots came out I was telling Dustin that I might have to only bring my camera on a few duck hunts this year, doing some upland shoots would be awesome bc with pointers I could get so close to the flush!

Pintail, it was so neat to see the mallards jump up off the water, esp bc there were so many drakes in the flock! Makes me really want to go duck hunting! For now hunting them down with the camera will have to do! Once spring rolls around and they stage at Frank lake, we're going to go set up some dekes and see if we can call any in...and I'll shoot em with the camera! I'm hoping it take the itch off my trigger finger!

CBR hunter it's always fun for myself to just shoot away. I was using a 14-45 lense that came with the my Olympus and just purchased a 40-150 lense that should be here next week.
I run Adobe Photoshop 7 and I may have to go back to school and get an education so I can utilize it to half it's potential.
I found birds to be a bit of a challenge but I take plenty of pics and have had a couple timed ok. This hen coming in for a landing and a couple other's.

Nice pics! Right now I just have the 18-55mm canon lens, but plan on getting either the 55-200 or 75-300...not sure yet, but I'm going out tommorrow to see if I can snap a fe more...I'll post IF I get any good ones...I think it's the challenge of getting that good shot of birds in flight that makes it exciting! Sheep....I can't wait to see that banded Mallard shot!

bruceba, nice shots but it looks like you hav some focus issues. are you using auto focus? i obviously don't kno how much experience you have so sorry if i'm insulting your photographic knowledge here but try using manual focus, set it to the spot you anticipate the birds coming in to, then your good,or use your auto focus by guessing appox how far away the birds are going to be, find something else that is equal distance away, and press teh shutter half down, this causes the camera to focus, and keep holding it down half way this locks the settings, then point at the birds and click

of course this only works if the birds cooperate and are coming down a specific flightpath :rolleyes

gunner 83 the problem is a combination of no bipod or tripod and the cheap 3x multiplier I was using to get closer to the birds. That and cropping that crap out of the pictures. I was lead into believing that the multiplier was a decent alternative while waiting for a chance at a decent lense. The multiplier only works when your fully zoomed and a lot harder to control free hand.
