Default Pike Tournaments

Hhas anyone tried getting some pike tournaments going in Alberta,
I know when I was in ontario alot of them where held.
What would be the interest, and would it be worth while to apply for the permits,

Hey we might just have something here

weigh in would not be weight but total length of what ever the allowable limit on a lake is allowed, live release of course,
1 day or 2 day ?
if we start now getting it organized could have a few next year

also needed would be a list of potential lakes that could support an event of this size, and location for specators to come watch the weigh ins, has to be fun for all anglers and spectators, and families to watch
c'mon start listing lakes

I suggest Wabamun

Wabamun has pike tournament written all over it , Id be game to get in on this , no if's and's or butts.

I think best to contact SRD , and get the information you would require . I know there's a few people on the forum here who run Tournaments and Tournament Organizations .

Wabamun

also gotta have a good wiegh in site, truck boat parking, ease of access for spectators
how many boat field , 2 person teams?
the more interest the better
c'mon lets see how many off of this site we can get and then on to other sites to spread the word.
I will get a hold of SRD to see whats required

It will have to be on a lake that has a harvest limit. Anything with a zero keep limit on it will be tough to get a CFE for.

You may want to look at how SAWT runs their weigh ins and see if that would work for you.

Wabamun
Lake Newell
That would be awesome if they would open Wabamun for a tournament,..

Wouldn't be keeping any fish, all released, I wonder if they would do that because of the CN incident... :s Ha_shakeshout:

Anything that goes into a livewell is considered a kept fish in SRD's mind.

That is why SAWT has to have tourneys on lake with a walleye keep limit and can only weigh so many fish per boat at a time.

Nate nt completely true . Wabamun has had a winter derby for many years , our own Rumtan was the guy who put it on . That rules out any tournaments for Wabamun . There has to be something there able to do as fish were measured and released at the tournament . Can't tell me it was illegal as fish and wildlife officers would come by say hello , check hooks etc .

Don't rule out Wabamun until you talk to fish and wildlife .

From what I have heard they are way more lenient towards handing out CFE's for ice fishing derbies.

I am not saying it can't happen I was just saying that it will probably be quite a bit tougher to get the proper permits for an open water derby on a lake with a 0 keep limit.

I am sure if you could get arrangements to have fish and wildlife officers or fisheries biologists on the weigh boats to take down information you may have a better shot at getting it set up.

Chin and 40 mile are more then big enough. Any fair sized southern reservoir would do.

How do you put a potential 48 inch 20 plus pound fish into a live well transport it to a weigh station and release it with much of a chance of it living?

Ok so have interest in fishing a tornament

have to pick a date that doesn't conflict with other events
start off with one event and see how it goes
get a permit , choose a lake,
Have a weigh in format to be able to keep fish out of water the least amount of time, (ie: BIG Bass http://oakleybigbass.com/ a wiegh in once an hour,
with multiple payouts cash or prizes)

group of volunteers to work the event ( service club from local that event is hosted)
organizing comitee 6 people

Why not have weigh boats stationed through out the lake. If u catch one net it and keep beside the boat until a weigh boat comes to measure and weigh. Then release the fish. Just need volunteers for this

Exactly. Cant be done. Have to be photos on a known background with tourney tag in pic. No weight only length.

most multi speicies and walleye boats have livewells that can handle large fish, or live wells can be purchased at cabellas and set up easily.
remember tournaments are not only for anglers but specators also, thats why sponsers get involved is to get exposer, with a weigh in on the water or photos no spectator involvment. In the past Most pike tournaments that i have fished in large fish were brought in measured and released.
but here to argue 1 issue. this whole topic is to see if it is feaseable to
