Default Vehicle shopping on kijiji.W.T.H!

Little rant.w.t.f is wrong with 90% of the sellers on there?
You think you would want to answer or return calls if you where selling a vehicle?
Also why would you not mention major obviouse flaws before someone gets there to check it out?happens time after time even when directly asked before heading over.
I just cant comprehend it.
Major lesson in frustration to say the least.

Also not listing engine size, 2 or 4 wheel drive, standard or automatic, not enough pictures or no pictures at all. Can you tell I'm looking for a truck?

Don't forget - 95% of the cars listed are "mint". Perhaps they're referring to the air freshener scent.

I've been truck shopping for about a year.
The quality of some ads is nothing less than moronic.
I think some ppl were dropped on their heads as babies.

What we are seeing is a lot of new Canadians flipping vehicles right now
Buy, fix and sell.
If there is a phone number then def call it over email it text.
That's my rule.
Save it to your favourites. And keep after them.
Some work out of town.

WE HAVE A WINNER! I'd say most people work outta town and are gone most of the time. My dad was trying to find some firewood and called a guy who just posted an add on Kijiji...Took the guy about a week to reply, he was up north working... Add that to Christmas last week and I think many people won't be returning calls right ......NOW!

It's not just the season but I have experienced similar slow replys from sellers on Kijiji also. Drives me nuts too BUT,,, ones need to buy should not outweigh the need for the seller to sell in my opinion.

I found my current vehicle on Kijiji. I e-mailed the seller at 8am, he called me back by 9am, car was insured, plated and sitting in my driveway by 3pm.

The ads on this board are more than a little short on info.

"Truck for sale, Black, PM me. for pics info details and my sister's phone number."

"what size motor?'

"I'm not sure, I'll check and get back to you."

Ad nauseum.

Kijiji is a real hit and miss. I've bought and sold a lot of stuff on it and did okay. I did get a lot of BS emails about my rhino one time. Guys wanted it for a fraction of what it was worth. I had about 18k into it, it had 900kms (2 years old) on it and a trailer for 11500$. Lost of emails saying I wanted too much or super lowball offers (5500$). I did sell it to a guy who actually came to see it. He said "holly hell, it is mint!" "Ya" I said. He gave me what I wanted....no questions asked.

I agree with what's being said about the sellers but I've had experiences with buyers that are just as bad.

I listed a car once, took good pics of all four sides, one of the odometer, the interior and described the car to a tee! It was easy to do because the car was in like new condition and I said that, as well as I said it was a non smoker car with no damage whatsoever.
The first email I get, the guys asks if I can send more pics and I said no. I told him the description was accurate and I'd only be wasting my time sending more pics. I told him that if he was even remotely interested in buying the car, he really should look at it in person because to start with, he was only 20 minutes away and also that more pics weren't going to tell him anything that he didn't already know. He was obviously just kicking tires because I never heard from him again.
Ticks me off when someone asks me to waste my time for their entertainment.

I have found a lot of people posting their ads around the holidays but then taking off to see family and friends. So I have been getting a bunch of late replys because they are out of town and not checking messages.

It's interesting reading what people say is an "ok practise" for selling/buying..

Me personally, having bought (or been part of) lots of online purchases, I ALWAYS ask for more pictures.

Why? Because 9/10 the photos given in an ad are useless (low res), and you can't tell the condition of the piece from the pictures.

It's MUCH easier and quicker (for both the seller and buyer) to ask for more pictures. It wastes less time for both involved. Not only that, but I will ask for specific things. As an example, on performance cars/trucks, I always ask for pictures of the header/downpipes. Why? because you can tell if the car has been returned to stock for sale. It's a simple thing that will not waste any of our time.

As a seller, I respond to every email, no matter how silly the question.

Not bad. But I'm always reluctant to post "not needed anymore as I have another vehicle" as you tend to get more lowballers thinking you need the money for the new vehicle. I leave the reason for selling for those that contact me.

Some comments to the above.
I would also take out the reason for selling.
No one cares. Bottom line. Get down to the details.

For the "more pictures crowd". They waste my time.
Had one guy who wanted more pictures of some 10/4 wire I was selling. Huh???

I sold a truck on Ao and kijiji.
I ended up selling it through a member here.

Now some ppl wanted pics of the interior.
I would be more interested in how a truck runs mechanically.
For how the truck was written up and the pics provided, all a person had to do was stop at the bank.
The requests I ignore are anyone who emails me looking for more info.
My ads clearly state to phone me only. It never fails that someone thinks this doesn't apply to them. They must be special and I will make an exception just for them. NO! I won't.
If the guy calls and says hey I'm 3 hours away, then I might consider.
Seems like some ppl don't want to spend 2 bucks on a LD phone call.

And a lot of ppl can't read.
Take my signature for example.
I am looking for a regular cab truck. Doesn't seem too hard to figure out right?
Apparently not as I get guys telling me to check out their truck that turns out to be an extended. Hmmm
Seems like ppl don't mind wasting everyone's time.

Asking for more pics may help weed out the scammers. It is easy for someone to cut and paste and sell something they don't own, especially firearms that will be shipped. If he doesn't have the gun, he can't get you more pics.

How do you know the scammer doesn't have more pics on file to make you think he's not a scammer.

My point was that if you're serious about a vehicle and the pics and description look good, why wouldn't you go have a look at it in real life if it's only 20 minutes away? The only reason I can think of is the guy's just a tire kicker with nothing to do but waste other peoples time.
If the guy is a long way away and says so then I'd probably oblige, but he'd have to state that so I know instead of just saying "send more pics".
