Decals are only awarded to those who have achieved P-RIG PRO ELITE status, and you get your choice of either a Berkley or Gulp hat as well! For this honor you must have caught 6 suckers, 2 walleye and 2 pike and 1 sturgeon. I have never even met a real life P-RIG PRO ELITE angler, and wonder if they even really exist....some say the P-RIG PRO ELITE anglers are even using a slip bobber setup sometime instead of the pickeral rig....unbelievable.


PS..sorry to the OP but these real world pickeral pros just amaze me!

Sean was it Crawling Valley Lake as some rainbows put in there did great and were close to 20 lbs now its not as great but u never know.. they have done some show on that phenomenon..it flooded some farm land i think ,like that lake in Sask just did and they got those huge pike a couple years ago

There was a pond or two near Medicine Hat apparently owned and operated by Mr Schlenker, he of the auctioneering family in that area. He was featured on a fishing show a few years ago, "What a Catch" that starred Kathryn Maroun, a lady with a women's clothing line that travelled the world fishing for the big ones. On the program they were fly casting for some huge rainbows (but not 30 lbs), but it was quite apparent that this fishing honey hole was completely privately operated, open to paying anglers only and strictly C&R.

Maybe that is the pond that fishinggeek is referring to.

we have one up here call East of Edson RV Park they go to 16# for sure and may be bigger and you pay so much per inch not sure if its still open

they do this in England and other places around the world pay fishing not my type of fishing

Although I would never pay to fish someones stocked dugout, I sure wouldn't mind having one in my backyard for the kids to fish in.

mho, a fish from any public water that has attained its size in that water is a trophy. fish that have been reared to a large size and then released, eg. phillis brooders are just a large farmed fish for their species . having spent lots of time on stocked waters in europe and the uk. in a short period of time these fish lose their fighting qualities when compared to wildies of the same species. released fish, however soon become very difficult to hook. my .02cents

I know a guy who stocked a pond with 200 rainbows and then, an osprey set up a nest in a tree right beside the pond. Everytime he tried to feed them, the hawk swooped down for lunch. He tried to get F&W to move the osprey nest, and they told him it was a protected species. Pi**ed my pants laughing (that osprey killed well over half of his fish). As for a trophy fish, if it is a trophy it is a trophy. 2n,3n, stocked - come on guys - where would you draw the line? I agree that a hand feed fish in a private pond shouldn't count, but if they were stocked in a private pond and forced to forage like the wild - well, that certainly would be different.

I agree, but I heard there is an artic char farm around Edmonton where you can pay to fly fish for char in one of the ponds. I would be into that!

When you say "fish in a private pond that are hand fed shouldnt count", I dont know what they shouldnt count for? I will say the absolute beauty of the entire thing in a dugout/pond situation is that unlike other animals one might raise in a rural setting, trout do not need to be fed if densities are kept reasonable. They need not be watered, an eye kept on them etc, name all the issues with other animals. A guy can leave and go on his merry way with no second thought. My pond is no different than any other body of water in my country. Hatches come off at regular intervals, aquatic insects abundant, and there are stickle backs for the meat eaters like the primarily fish predating rainbows (about 50% of the bunch as well as the brookies, the other 50% of the rainbows seem to prey mainly on insects). I choose to hand feed every morning and evening on a daily basis as time permits through out the open water season, basically to assure max possible growth rates they do like an easy meal no matter the size, but also PRIMARILY to assure each years stocked 8-10inchers grow peak rate to get as many through the small size period where they are predated on by cormorants. Difficult to do!! I lose alot annually to predators since starting this little science project, mainly spring time when the cormorants are flying hard covering ground before breeding. Problem is thats when everyone stocking has just put these tasty little morsels in thier new homes. The faster they grow up the better, at leat thats my way of looking at it. I found true blue pond dye to camoflage them so predators cannot look down and see them.Even if one is in there diving to chase them down, they have to get right on top of one to see it. It has worked wonders. Water in the house is a little blue looking but its nothing to worry about. Those indian candied rainbows might cost abit more due to feeding when I club some through the ice as 5 pounders, but they are worth it.
