Default Are these fish safe to eat

My family and i have been fishing @ severn dam (just north of standard alberta) for a couple of years now and someone told us that the fish there have mercury in them. I was told that the water is yellowish because of the iron.
Does anyone know if anyone tests the fish out there. I know it is stocked by the fishery

According to the Gov. there is mercury in all waters in Alberta. The fish too! If the fish don't kill you, crossing the street will. Think the fisheries post things like that so people don't fish those waters.

Mercury can bio-accumulate in your body. The concern posed is eating to much and accumulating a toxic level in your body. Children, pregnant or nursing mothers are particularly at risk. Eating moderate amounts as stated in the guidelines is fine. If you are eating Severn fish too regularly you have risk of mercury poisoning. Also dams are particularly problematic as natural mercury in the soil leeches out and creates higher concentrations in the biota.
