Default Finally....!!

The magpie trap delivers! Built it a few years ago and has seen little action. This morning I look out the kitchen window and they're flapping all over the place.
And a quick glance down the lane to the field shows a male ruffie performing for 3 females.

Heh! My magpie trap was like that too - sat empty for months, and as soon as one found its way in, more followed quickly. What a racket!

Not many magpies around here. I've never seen one in my yard thank you

...and wow you have a lot of leaves down! Leaves here have changed colour of course but the trees still have all of their leaves. I guess a lack of wind is contributing to that.

I had to throw my trap out because it didn't fit with the garden aesthetic...

Bit of a side topic, how does everyone euthanize their catch (not all of us live close enough to TreeGuy to store them in his garage...)

Normally, a standard lead-based magpie feeder would work, but in municipalities like mine, even airsoft or slingshots are prohibited.

For squirrels, the cardboard box and exhaust works well, but a trap full of magpies could pose a challenge.

Went to town this morning....gone about 2 hours and there's 3 more in the trap. One figured his way out before I got down there. Lead poisoning...I live in the boonies.

How big of an entrance hole on top? What were you using for bait? I have a great spot for one of these😉

It's about a 7" diameter hole and the board is there to give them access to stand and look things over...bait is just old stuff/meat from the freezer
