Default Forum Poetry Contest...I am trying to see which board is more creative...this or Calgary Flyfish

Anyone with a creative bent...try and think up an on the spot poem...regarding fish only...

ODE TO A PERCH

You swam into my life one day
at first one
then two
then more I say

You checked out my shiny hook
and then you said
me thinks it does not look real
and that was your final look

To rid our lake of yellow and green
I thought what should I do
I needed some fishing friends
More than the lake has ever seen

Some guys came calling
Names such as Fisher Alex
Badback and others
But to rickr...thought of perch was galling

So today the weather seemed frightfully cold
but compared to Christmas
such chilly weather can only been said
To be nothing more than bold.

For soon the Sun shall shine so hot
and beat down upon our city
which shall have everyone wanting
To catch more perch...NOT.

I head to my favorite hole
Hook up my bait
my bell goes off
oh there goes my pole

I look to my right
then to my left
Nobody had seen
I wasn't so bright

I rigged my last rod
In hopes to catch fish
The fish gods were helpin
As I caught me a cod

Mixing a beer batter
fish cut up nice
It's gonna be tasty
My fish on the platter

As I was still eating
A seagull swooped down
Steal my dinner
You gonna get a beating

Missing me by an inch
thank god for that
Still got my dinner
Aint fishing a sinch!

I think I may have beat this one up a bit. Can't wait to see the next ones

Default Fishin

The morning light was misty blue
as we headed out to lake Magoo
The coffee down and feelin good
A rattle was heard beneath the hood

We stop the truck to have a look
A jerk drives by and calls me a schnook
With nothing seen we drive away
Anticipating a lucky day.

The drive is long , but we soon arrive
My partner wakes and begins to rise
Are we there yet he sleepily speaks.
l fake a slap across his cheek.

Out we go onto the ice
with gear in hand , it will be nice
We dig some holes with great dispair
The blades are dull we,re choppin air.

2 hours later we are set
with tip ups down and soakin wet
The sweat is frezzing under my clothes
My partner strikes a stupid pose

AHHH we say this is the life
pass me a beer while l phone the wife
She answers the phone with a chilling schrill
Get home here now , its your uncle Bill

Well off we go , we,re done for the day
just get home as he passes away
He whispers some words in his dying breath
Good fishin my boy , l now will rest.

The years have passed , and l too am old
my muscles dont work , and l,m always cold
l sit here now in my comfy chair
and once in a while l go out for some air

The old days are gone
its time for the new
happy fishin my friends
from me to you.

I saw this many years ago in a fishing mag.

I am a fisherman, for life.
I will always be a fisherman.
It's not something I do,
it is who I am.
Fishing is not an escape.
It is where I belong,
where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place,
but a lifelong journey.
It is a passage my father showed me,
and that I will show others.

When you understand all of this,
you will know me,
and we will fish together.

sparkey took wifey out lookin for wally
even tho such a practice gave reason for folly
rods at the ready they both couldn't wait
till wifey found out they were using live bait
"they're leeches" i said "and they're not really that big"
"heck, i'll even stick it on the end of your jig"
"you just sit with your rod and wait for a bite"
"there's no reason to argue and fight"
the hours passed and we talked and we laughed
the day was just lovely, the lake was like glass
now the story ends here as i feel it must
the events that followed gave much reason to cuss
and the chances i knew of trying this again were remote
when i dumped the tub of leeches in her end of the boat.
