Default Perch Bait?

What are some of your go to perch baits besides worms?

I used to use perch eyes. Catch 1 perch, take its eyes out and put them on the jig and repeat.

x2 on the perch eyes. Goldenrod grubs or waxies.

Northland makes perch eye plastics. I might have to give them a try.

Various gulp products. Some used as-is, some cut to whatever shape I think might work

Eyes work great when they are aggressive or there’s jumbos around

Maggot on a single 14 dropper hook under a tungsten jig if they get real picky. Sometime you have to make it easy to inhale.

Picky buggers ....I always bring an assortment of bait if I'm targeting perch. Maggots and shrimp (frozen uncooked grocery store stuff) are my go to usually, mealworms sometimes and those red trout eggs work some days too. But the trend has been soft plastics so I'm going to work the roadside minnows and the tight lines UV stuff a bit more this year....I found some scented nymphs last year that worked well some days too.

Eyeballs
Mealworms
Maggots
Small frozen minnow

In that order.

Jig colour, size and shape is more important.

One inch minnow on a tiny jig head. Even half a minnow once you find the perch.

The guys on Devils Lake, ND use minnow heads, maggots, wax worms and perch eyes, in order from most common to least common.

Maggots for all perch. Tiny minnows for large perch only.

Use the shrimp left over from your shrimp ring. Cut in half depending on how big they are. This is my go to perch bait

raw bacon fat. Stays on the hook for multiple fish, and works great. Couple slices of bacon will last you all day.

Bacon fat works great. Although Dad would outfish all of us when he dipped the bacon fat in Sardine Oil {he loved to eat Sardines out of the can.}

Raw chicken skin cut into small pieces. Tough a nails and stays on the hooks.
