I saw the same picture, but from the other side today lol.

Oooh are they getting lit up lol.

Same kind of pinhead that would tow a bulldozer behind a half ton.

There's hundreds of people fishing out at Balsam Bay they're just not hauling a 20-foot trailer.

Hmmm....who would pull a trailer that big with a damn half-ton?

I guess the answer is "the same guy that would pull said trailer out on thin ice".....

Wink That's gonna leave a mark

Tow truck operators love people like that, it's practically a license to print money.

again, why anyone wants to drive a truck on ice is beyond me. Maybe up north where you get the ice roads, but come on people!

I should start working on some truck side-steps that are about 5"-6" diameter with fast-inflating pontoons that pop out like an airbag. Front and rear bumpers to match too. Gonna have to hit up some calculations to figure out the float diameter given the weight of the truck & occupants......

That wrong decision is in a bad spot and there isn't much anyone can do for him. Cant imagine what he was thinking but those payments need to be made even if its water logged. I'm sure he is still kicking himself without us doing it.

Unless Autopac has changed their policy in the past decade, there is no coverage once you leave a designated ice road. You are on the hook for the recovery and the damages, as well as any environmental charges due to contaminant spills. If the pipes under the trailer are damaged enough to leak, it could get real expensive in a hurry.

This is the video someone from Manitoba took & put up on Facebook, it looks like the red truck got out, but another truck went down near the trailer, they say the location is Balsam Bay on Lake Winnipeg, that's not far from Grand Marais or the Grand Beach area. Supposedly 10" ice in that area. You'll enjoy the Titanic music in the video.

Exactly. It’s been discussed a million times on here. I went ahead and called my insurer who DOES cover me for replacement and recovery fees. I made sure to get it in writing as well.

Well from the video the trailer is a wreck now. Looks like they either tried to pull it out backwards or it collapsed on the one rear corner from going further into the ice.

Why the other guy would even try to drive out is beyond any type of discussion.

He was probably trying to squat in the abandoned trailer.

My fishin buddy from Wpg was out today at Balsam Bay were this happened, he sent me the following .... it gives you an idea on what happened.

D.

Three of us limited out in 4 hours on Balsam today. Drove right up to some of the carnage. Ice was great off shore. Suspect north wind may have pushed up some of the ice onto the east side and caused some issues.

The rig with that trailer should have never attempted to gain access with that weight. Ice is 12” 1.3 miles out.

When that rig broke through is fractured the thinner ice near that break wall and then opened up some other weak areas. One guy got a tandem tow out. One truck was lost all got out. One guy ignores warning people and drove his truck into a hole from the truck that got out.

I was gone around 2 so the trailer was still there. It seems they disconnected the trailer from truck and got the truck off. Trailer not sure of at this point.
