Default Camp wainwright grouse season labour day weekend

Can anyone confirm that this hunt is on for the Labour Day Weekend?
I know that historically its been held for many, many years but I want to be sure.
I haven't done this hunt in at least a dozen years. I will be visiting friends in the area and we would like to spend a morning or evening getting some exercise and maybe put up a grouse or two.
How has the hunting been the past few years? My experience suggests the grouse numbers vary widely from year to year. Maybe we will get lucky and bump into a few nice flocks.

Default grouse hunt

Havent heard anything to the contrary, and I plan on showing up.
The last couple of years the hunting has been pretty good for sharpies, but the ruffs are pretty thin in numbers.
Make sure to pack water for your dog. Last year we were hunting into the mid to low thirties and it gets pretty rough.
You gonna be hunting solo?

The hunt is still listed for Sept 2-4 for this year. I skipped last year due to the heat, and I may not attend until Sunday this year due to Saturday forecast to be 28 degrees, but Sunday and Monday are supposed to be much cooler.

Default Camp wainwright

Thanks, everyone.
I'll check the regs before we leave, just in case .....
The last time my wife and I went was when our Lab was a puppy---good place to train. Now, she's in Doggie Heaven and our good friends will loan us their Lab as she needs a good work out.
Plan is to go one evening as it starts to cool down. Mornings are probably better but we will be busy socialising and getting up early might be a struggle.

Thank for the reminder.
Its the only place I've been to that requires non-toxic shot for upland birds.

Default Wainwright

The smoke was too much for my old lungs so we decided to spend most of our time indoors.
I see a separate post that some hunters braved the elements and did well.

We gave it 2-1/2 hours Saturday, before calling it around 11. I was only there the one morning.

Hopefully next year will be better for you with less smoke.
We never hunted sharpies before and had some great beginners luck on the first day. We covered 8 km and limited on Sharp tail from three large coveys.
Second day we did some searching across the base and covered 16 km and never flushed one bird but had some great fun with my dog and hunting partner.
The third day we went back to where we were the first day and covered another
8 km, flushed up one covey of three and I was able to knock down two. My partner was daydreaming and never got a shot off at the third Sharpie. lol
Thanks to the base and organizers.
I will be back again.

Congrats on your success. You really put on the miles and were rewarded accordingly.
